WEST POINT, N.Y. -
Army senior goalkeeper Matt Wesmiller made four saves but it wasn't enough as the Black Knights dropped a 1-0 decision to Lehigh in a Patriot League match this evening at Clinton Field.
"We played well and hung with a very good team," said head coach Kurt Swanbeck. "We knew it was going to be a chess match and we knew it was going to be a one goal game."
Lehigh junior midfielder Adam Williamson knocked in the game-winning goal off a feed from senior back Joe Verdi in the 76th minute. It was Williamson's third tally of the year.
Army falls to 3-8-1 (0-3-0 Patriot League) on the season while the Mountain Hawks improve to 7-3-1 (1-1-1 Patriot League).
"We're showing that we are a young team and we make young mistakes at critical times," continued Swanbeck. "This team has so much potential and played well tonight. We gave them a good fight, we just have to keep plugging away."
Lehigh senior goalkeeper Sam Bishop registered two saves as he recorded his second shutout of the season.
"My hat goes off to Lehigh," added Swanbeck. "This was a typical Lehigh team, solid all over the field."
Lehigh out shot Army 11-9 in the match.
The Black Knights are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Worcester, Mass., to take on Patriot League opponent Holy Cross in a match at 3:00 p.m.
