Patriot League Announces Men’s Soccer Players of the Week (10.4.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Loyola Maryland collected three of the five Patriot League Men’s Soccer weekly awards, while Holy Cross and Lehigh took home the remaining two awards, as the League announced honors on Monday.
 
Loyola senior forward Kelan Swales earned offensive player of the week honors, while graduate student Justin Ingram was named midfielder of the week, and graduate student Chase Vosvick picked up goalkeeper of the week.
 
Lehigh sophomore defender Hassane Diakho was named defensive player of the week, while Holy Cross freshman forward Jon Klein rounded out the awards as the rookie of the week.
 
American senior forward David Coly and sophomore midfielder Ethan Boyle, Army West Point senior goalkeeper Jacob Suppiah, Bucknell freshman defender Gabe Dahlin, Lafayette junior midfielder David Mizrahi and senior defender Andrew Venezia, and Navy senior goalkeeper Tyler Fahning each earned honorable mention laurels.

Offensive Player of the Week
Kelan Swales, Loyola Maryland, Sr., F, Leeds, England/Cardinal Heenan Catholic
* Swales led Loyola offensively with seven points (3 goals, 1 assist) during a pair of 3-0 victories over William & Mary and Boston University.
* The senior recorded five points (2 goals, 1 assist), the most by a Patriot League player in a game this season, during Wednesday's home win over William & Mary. He assisted on the opening goal in the 23rd minute, and added a pair of key insurance strikes in the second half to help the Greyhounds end a 10-game winless run against W&M, topping the Tribe for the first time since 1998.
* He then provided the game-winning goal in Loyola's 3-0 win at Boston U on Saturday, opening the scoring in the 18th minute.

Midfielder of the Week 
Justin Ingram, Loyola Maryland, Gr., M/F, Indianapolis, Ind./Pike
* Ingram totaled five points (1 goal, 3 assists) during a pair of 3-0 victories for the Greyhounds this past week.
* Ingram had a pair of assists during Wednesday's win over William & Mary, including the primary assist on Jordan Wiley's game-winner in the first half, as he helped Loyola defeat the Tribe for the first time since 1998.
* The graduate student added a goal and an assist during Saturday's 3-0 win over Boston University. He had the primary assist on Kelan Swales' game-winner in the first half, and added an insurance goal for Loyola in the 88th minute.
* He leads the Greyhounds with 11 points (3 goals, 5 assists) on the year, factoring in eight of the team's 13 overall goals.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Hassane Diakho, Lehigh, So., D, Dakar, Senegal/South Kent Scholl (Conn.)
* Diakho helped hold the Black Knights (the Patriot League scoring leader) without a goal for the first 84 minutes of the game in the team’s 2-1 win.
* The sophomore also helped keep the score tied for the final five minutes before the Mountain Hawks netted the game-winning goal in the final minute.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week 
Chase Vosvick, Loyola Maryland, Gr., GK, Phoenix, Md./Montverde Academy
* Vosvick posted the 22nd and 23rd shutouts of his collegiate career last week, making one save in each of Loyola's pair of 3-0 victories over William & Mary and Boston U.
* He preserved the clean sheet in Loyola's first win over the Tribe since 1998 with a diving stop in the 58th minute.
* The goalkeeper improved his season record to 4-2-1 with a 0.42 GAA and .870 save percentage. He currently leads the Patriot League and ranks in the top 15 nationally in both GAA and save percentage.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jon Klein, Holy Cross, Fr., F, Natick, Mass./Buckingham Browne & Nichols
* Klein recorded a goal and an assist during the 3-1 victory over Colgate on Friday night.
* The freshman scored the game-winning goal against the Raiders when he broke a 1-1 tie in the 60th minute.
* He then added an assist on Dylan Scanley's goal in the 62nd minute to put the Crusaders up 3-1.
 
Honorable Mentions
David Coly, American, Sr., F, Dakar, Senegal/Mercersburg Academy
* Coly scored one goal and recorded two assists over the course of the week as American earned two victories. He extended his point streak to six games, one away from tying his school record.
 
Ethan Boyle, American, So., M, Denver, Colo./Denver East
* Boyle scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help American defeat Bucknell for the first time since 2016.
 
Jacob Suppiah, Army West Point, Sr., GK, Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School
* Suppiah picked up his fourth win between the posts on Wednesday with a clean sheet against the Terriers for his second shutout of the season.
 
Gabe Dahlin, Bucknell, Fr., D, Gothenberg, Sweden/Glen Ridge (N.J.)
* Dahlin was part of a defense that allowed only eight total shots and just two on goal in 94 minutes against Lehigh on Wednesday night. Dahlin then scored his first collegiate goal on Saturday in a 2-1 loss to defending League champion American.
 
David Mizrahi, Lafayette, Jr., M, Aventura, Fla./University
* Mizrahi netted the lone goal in the Leopards’ victory over Colgate on Saturday.
 
Andrew Venezia, Lafayette, Sr., D, Lincroft, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy
* Venezia recorded his first goal of the season off a penalty kick in the 75th minute of action to tie up the game and eventually send it into overtime against Navy. He then recorded the lone assist of the game, off the Leopards’ only goal of the game by David Mizrahi in the 26th minute of action in the 1-0 over Colgate.

* Fahning tallied his sixth shutout of the season this weekend against Holy Cross, the most in the Patriot League this season.
