Patriot League Announces Men’s Soccer Postseason Awards (11.5.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa — Loyola Maryland earned three of the six men's soccer major awards while Navy recorded two honors and Holy Cross received one award when the League office announced its postseason honors on Friday.
 
Greyhounds' senior midfielder Justin Ingram earned midfielder of the year honors for the second-straight year, while teammate senior goalkeeper Chase Vosvick nabbed Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year for the fourth time, and head coach Steve Nichols was named coach of the year for the fourth time.

Navy senior defender Matt Nocita received defensive player of the year for the third year while senior forward Jacob Williams earned offensive player of the year.

Holy Cross freshman forward Evan Jones rounded out the major award winners as the rookie of the year.
 
Eleven student-athletes were named to the All-Patriot League first-team, 12 to the second-team and 10 to the third-team.

Navy led the way with eight overall all-League selections, followed by Lafayette and Loyola with five each. American placed four student-athletes on the teams, while Army West Point, Holy Cross and Lehigh all earned three honorees each. Boston University and Bucknell rounded out the all-League teams with one student-athlete apiece.

The major awards and All-Patriot League teams were voted on by the 10 Patriot League men's soccer head coaches, who could not vote for their student-athletes or themselves.

Goalkeeper of the Year Breaks League Career Shutout Record
* Loyola Maryland graduate student goalkeeper Chase Vosvick collected his 28th career shutout against Bucknell on Wednesday night to break the League’s career-shutout record. The mark was previously held by Bucknell’s Adam Edwards (2002-05) with 27.

2021 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year
Jacob Williams, Navy, Sr., F, Millersville, Md./Old Hill
* Williams finished the regular season with leading Navy in goals (6), assists (4) and points (16).
* The senior netted three game-winning goals to be tied in the League for second with Loyola’s Kelan Swales.
* In 57 career appearances for Williams, the senior has scored 22 goals and dished out eight assists for 52 points.

2021 Patriot League Midfielder of the Year
Justin Ingram, Loyola Maryland, Gr., M, Indianapolis, Ind./Pike (Univ. of Virginia)
* Ingram finished the regular season with six goals, a League-leading nine assists for 21 points in 16 games played.
* Ingram’s points are good tied for second this season in the Patriot League while his goals tally is tied for fourth.
* The graduate student received Patriot League Men’s Soccer Midfielder of the Week three times this season (August 30; October 3; October 18).
* In Spring 2021, the midfielder was named the Patriot League Men’s Soccer Midfielder of the Year, and earned United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Atlantic Region honors.

2021 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year
Matt Nocita, Navy, Sr., D, Porter Ranch, Calif./Oaks Christian
* Nocita helped back the Mids defense, which held opponents to 0.94 goals per game as Navy went 5-1 in League play this season.
* The senior defender aided in the team’s nine shutouts (tied for second in the League) on the year.
* Offensively, the senior tallied two goals, with one against La Salle and one against Mount St. Mary’s.
* Nocita has been named the League’s defensive player of the year now three times (2019, Spring ’21).
* Last season, he was placed on the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second Team, after earning first-team honors in 2019.

2021 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year
Chase Vosvick, Loyola Maryland, Gr., GK, Phoenix, Md./Montverde Academy (Fla.)
* In 15 games in goal this season, Vosvick collected 35 saves and eight shutouts for a .729 save percentage and posted a 0.90 goals-against average for the Greyhounds.
* The graduate student owns a 41-22-6 record, 187 saves and 28 shutouts, to go along with a .725 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average in 70 career appearances.
* Vosvick has been named the Patriot League Men’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year four times (’17, ’18, Spring ’21, Fall ’21) and is a 12-time goalkeeper of the week.
 
2021 Patriot League Rookie of the Year
Evan Jones, Holy Cross, Fr., F, West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall
* Jones capped his freshman season by leading the Crusaders in goals (8) and points (22) as he appeared in 18 contests.
* His points tally is first in the League this year, while his 1.22 points per game ranks second. Jones’ eight goals are tied for first in the League with Lehigh’s Jack Sarkos.
* Jones received rookie of the week laurels four times this season, including September 20 when he scored a pair of goals for Holy Cross.

2021 Patriot League Coach of the Year
Steve Nichols, Loyola Maryland
* Nichols led the Greyhounds to a 7-2 record in Patriot League play and their fourth-straight fall regular-season title.
* In his eighth year at the helm, she also guided the team to the No. 1 seed in the 2021 Men’s Soccer Patriot League Championship.
* Nichols is now a four-time Patriot League coach of the year (2016, ‘17, ‘18, ‘21).
