Terriers Capture 2022 Patriot League Women’s Golf Title and NCAA Regional Berth (4.17.22)

Boston University’s Flair Kuan wins individual medalist and player of the year honors

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Boston University’s final-round team score of 26-over par 314 was the best of the day to help the Terriers finish one stroke in front of Richmond, claiming their third Patriot League Women’s Golf Championship at the par-72, 6,084-yard U.S. Naval Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.
 
Sophomore Flair Kuan battled the windy Easter Sunday conditions to turn in a 2-over par 74, the lowest score of the day, to help erase the Spiders’ one-stroke advantage entering the final round. Her third-round performance allowed her to win individual medalist honors, finishing with an 8-over par 224. Kuan also earned First Team All-Patriot League honors for the second time and was named the 2022 Patriot League Women’s Golfer Year in a vote by the League coaches.
 
Terriers’ freshman Christy Chen (+19, 235) and senior Hanako Kawasaki (+20, 236) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, to garner second-team All-League honors and help BU post a final team score of 64-over par 928. Head Coach Bruce Chalas collected Patriot League Women’s Golf Coach of the Year for the third time after guiding BU to the League’s automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals.
 
Richmond Sophomore Rory Weinfurther, last season’s individual champion, finished second with a 12-over par 228. She was joined on the All-Patriot League First Team by junior Vicky Zhu, who carded a 13-over par 229, tying for third place. The Spiders finished the 54-hole championship with a team score of 65-over par 929, one stroke behind BU. Freshman Lauren Jones finished 10th to earn All-League second team with a score of 23-over par 239.
 
Navy finished third by firing a three-round team score of 76-over par 940. Junior Angelina Chan led the Mids with an 18-over par 234 to earn first-team All-League honors. Sophomores Stephanie Lee (20+, 236) and Mara Hirtle (22+, 238) received second-team All-League recognition.
 
Lehigh first-year Madison Pineda finished in a tie for third place with a 13-over par 229, helping the Mountain Hawks finish fourth out of the six-team field with a team score of 92-over par 956. Pineda was also named Patriot League Women’s Golf Rookie of the Year in a vote by the coaches.
 
Bucknell placed fifth with a team score of 119-over par 983. Freshman Tara Thomas was the top Bison finisher in a tie for 18th-place at 27-over par 243.
 
Holy Cross rounded out the six-team championship field with a 145-over par 1,009. Freshman Manuela Herrera shot a 29-over par 245 to lead the Crusaders in a tie for 22nd place.

BOSTON UNIVERSITY EARNS AUTOMATIC BID TO THE NCAA REGIONALS: Boston University captured the Patriot League’s automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals. NCAA Regionals will be held from May 9-11 at six regional sites around the country. Kuan and the Terriers will learn their regional destination during the 2022 NCAA DI Women’s Golf Selection Show on April 27 at 5 p.m. ET on GOLF Channel.
