Patriot League Announces Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (9.19.22)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Navy claims four of the five Patriot League Women’s Soccer Players of the Week awards, while Boston University collected the remaining honor.
 
Navy sophomore Amanda Graziano, freshman Marlee Heaven, and juniors Mattie Gallagher and Jenna Daunt were named offensive, rookie, goalkeeper, and midfielder of the week respectively. Their efforts helped lead the Midshipmen to a win over Bucknell, who was ranked second in the Patriot League Preseason Coaches’ Poll.  
 
BU senior Jenna Oldham was named defensive player of the week after her assist on the game-tying goal helped guide BU to a 2-1 comeback win over Lafayette.
 
Army junior Kaitlin Palaian, Holy Cross freshman Kailee McCabe, Loyola Maryland senior Paige Sim and sophomore Olivia Quaranta, and Navy junior Chloe Dawson earned honorable mention.

* Graziano had assists on the Midshipmen’s first three goals in their 4-0 win over Bucknell.
* Her three assists tie Navy’s program record for the most assists in a single contest.

Midfielder of the Week 
Jenna Daunt, Navy, Jr., M., Haymarket, Va./Battlefield High
* Daunt scored the second goal in the matchup of the top two teams in the Patriot League Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
* Her goal against Bucknell was her second goal of the 2022-2023 season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Jenna Oldham, Boston University, Sr., D., Lithia, Fla./Newsome High
* Oldham tallied her first point of the season with an assist on the game-tying goal to help BU to a 2-1 comeback win over Lafayette.
* She contributed to a defensive line that helped limit the Leopards to just one shot on goal.  
 
Goalkeeper of the Week 
Mattie Gallagher, Navy, Jr., GK., Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area
* Gallagher achieved her fourth shutout of the season and 11th of her career with Navy’s 4-0 win over Bucknell
* She made six total saves, five in the second half of the game, two of which occurred in the final 15 minutes of the match.
 
Rookie of the Week
Marlee Heaven, Navy, Fr., F., Bethesda, Md. /Richard Montgomery
* Heaven scored the first goal of her collegiate career in Navy’s win over Bucknell.
 
Honorable Mentions
Kaitlin Palaian, Army West Point, Jr., F., Atlanta, Ga./Grady High
* Palaian scored the opening goal in the 1-1 tie against Iona and the game-winner against Lehigh.

* McCabe scored the Crusaders’ goal in the 1-1 tie against American.

* Quaranta added her fourth assist of the season with her aid in the game-winning goal against Colgate.

* Dawson assisted in Navy’s first goal in the win over Bucknell.
