Patriot League Announces Men’s Soccer Weekly Awards (10.16.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh earned three of the Patriot League Men's Soccer Weekly Awards, while Army West Point and Lafayette each recorded one when the League announced awards on Monday.

Lehigh freshman defender Trey Sheeler was named the defensive player and rookie of the week after helping the Mountain Hawks to a clean sheet against Loyola Maryland. Teammate senior goalkeeper Blake Koski made a game-high three saves versus the Greyhounds.

Lafayette senior forward Hale Lombard earned offensive player of the week for the second time this season as he recorded a goal and an assist in the team’s 2-0 win over Boston University.

Army West Point senior midfielder Cooper Warren nabbed midfielder of the week laurels after taking three shots in the 1-1 tie versus Navy.
 
Army West Point sophomore goalkeeper Harrison Faulkner, Colgate senior forward Aidan Davock and Lafayette sophomore defender Nicholas Liebich earned honorable mentions.

The weekly awards were voted on by the men’s soccer head coaches from each institution, with restrictions on voting for their student-athletes.

2023 Patriot League Men’s Soccer Championship
The 2023 Patriot League Men’s Soccer Championship begins with quarterfinal-round action on Saturday, Nov. 4, followed by semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 7. The Patriot League Men's Soccer Championship Game will be played on Saturday, Nov. 11. 

Offensive Player of the Week 
Hale Lombard, Lafayette, Sr., F, Belleair Bluffs, Fla./The Hill School
* Lombard tallied a goal and an assist in a 2-0 victory over Patriot League opponent Boston University.
* This goal takes him to his 10th goal of the season, and he is now tied for fourth in the nation for total goals scored this season. 

Midfielder of the Week 
Cooper Warren, Army West Point, Sr., M, Auburndale, Fla./Lakeland Collegiate
* Warren played all 90 minutes of action against Navy while totaling three shots in the 1-1 tie.

Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week 
Trey Sheeler, Lehigh, Fr., D, Bethlehem, Pa./Moravian Academy
* Sheeler anchored a backline that secured a clean sheet in the 0-0 tie versus Loyola Maryland. 
* The game marked the first clean sheet for Lehigh since the Mountain Hawks defeated Lafayette, 1-0, in 2022.

Goalkeeper of the Week 
Blake Koski, Lehigh, Sr., GK, Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty High School
* Koski made a game-high three saves in the 0-0 tie versus Loyola Maryland. 
* The senior recorded his first shutout of the season in the draw.

Honorable Mention
Harrison Faulkner, Army West Point, So., GK, Redlands, Calif./Redlands
* Faulkner totaled five saves in the Army-Navy Star Series game.
* He made two saves to keep the game knotted at 1-1 in the second half.

Aidan Davock, Colgate, Sr. F, Medway, Mass./The Rivers School
* For the first time in his career, Davock tallied an assist in back-to-back games as the Raiders went 1-1 last week. His first assist came in a 3-1 loss to Cornell on the road, followed by a second assist to help power the Raiders past American in a 2-1 Patriot League win.
 
Nicholas Liebich, Lafayette, So., D, Boise, Idaho/Riverstone International
* Liebich scored his first collegiate goal and eventual game-winner in the Leopards’ 2-0 win over Boston University.
* Liebich also played the full 90 minutes of the match and helped hold BU to only one shot on target.
