Patriot League Announces Men’s Soccer Weekly Awards (10.2.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University and Lafayette both earned two of the Patriot League Men's Soccer Weekly Awards, while Navy recorded one when the League announced awards on Monday.

BU graduate student midfielder Colin Innes collected midfielder of the week after a four-point performance in the 3-0 win against Holy Cross. Teammate senior back Griffin Roach earned defensive player of the week as he helped limit two teams to just one combined shot on goal.

Lafayette senior forward Hale Lombard claimed offensive player of the week with a pair of game-winning goals, while teammate junior goalkeeper Griffin Huff was named goalkeeper of the week as he recorded two shutouts in a 2-0 week.

Navy freshman defender Victor Saade rounded out the weekly awards as rookie of the week as he helped the Mids record their third-straight shutout.

BU senior goalkeeper Francesco Montali, Loyola Maryland graduate student forward Danilo Seglio, and Navy junior goalkeeper Pierce Holbrook and senior midfielder David Jackson earned honorable mentions.

The weekly awards were voted on by the men's soccer head coaches from each institution, with restrictions on voting for their student-athletes.

Offensive Player of the Week 
Hale Lombard, Lafayette, Sr., F, Belleair Bluffs, Fla., The Hill School
* The senior captain led the Leopards to two victories this past week with two game-winning goals, one against Army and one against Holy Cross.
* In the 1-0 win over Army, the senior netted the game-winner in the 24th minute off an assist from teammate Benji Grossi.
* Lombard tallied his second-straight game-winning goal of the week against Holy Cross off a penalty kick at the 44:32 mark.

Midfielder of the Week 
Colin Innes, Boston University, Gr., M, Olathe, Kansas/Blue Valley West
* Innes totaled four points in a 3-0 victory over Holy Cross, assisting on the first two goals and then netting his first goal of the year.
* The midfielder then recorded a season-high four shot attempts, as the Terriers finished with a 16-4 advantage in shots against the Raiders in a 0-0 draw.

Defensive Player of the Week 
Griffin Roach, Boston University, Sr., B, Canton, Mass./Canton
* Roach started both games as the anchor of the backline and helped the Terriers earn a pair of shutouts.
* He helped limit Holy Cross (3-0) and Colgate (0-0) to four shots apiece and just one combined shot on net. Roach also helped BU successfully defend against eight corners.

Goalkeeper of the Week 
Griffin Huff, Lafayette, Jr., GK, Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post
* Huff recorded two shutouts this past week against Army and Holy Cross.
* In the two 1-0 wins, Huff made two saves against Army and three saves against Holy Cross.
* He currently holds a .786 save percentage through seven matches started this season. 
 
Rookie of the Week
Victor Saade, Navy, Fr., D, Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay
* Saade helped the Navy defense post its third-straight shutout in a 2-0 win over Lehigh on Saturday.
* The rookie center-back played the full 90 minutes in the Mids win, limiting Lehigh to just 11 total shots and one shot on goal.

Honorable Mention
Francesco Montali, Boston University, Sr., GK, Davie, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas

* Montali played all 180 minutes, helping the Terriers earn a pair of shutouts with a 3-0 victory vs. Holy Cross and a 0-0 draw against Colgate. The senior registered one save against the Raiders, smothering a free-kick attempt from just outside the box.

Danilo Seglio, Loyola Maryland, Gr., F, Campinas, Brazil
* Seglio recorded two goals and one assist in the team's 2-0 week against Bucknell and Army. He scored against Bucknell on an outside-the-foot shot. He also recorded an assist against Bucknell off of a corner kick. He scored his second goal off of a deep free-kick against Army.
 
Pierce Holbrook, Navy, Jr., GK, Littleton, Colo./Chatfield
* Holbrook led the Navy defense to its third consecutive shutout on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Lehigh, as he made one save. The clean sheet marked Holbrook's fourth of the season, and has now held opponents scoreless over his last 353 minutes played.

David Jackson, Navy, Sr., M, Cypress, Texas/iSchool High
* David Jackson extended his point streak to three games and helped Navy earn its third-straight win with a goal in the Mids' 2-0 victory over Lehigh on Saturday. Burying a rebound off a Nate Stewart cross in the 81st minute, Jackson gave the Mids a cushion in the closing minutes and gave himself a tally for the second-straight game.
