BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Army West Point earned three of the five Patriot League Men's Lacrosse weekly awards, while Boston University and Loyola Maryland earned one, as the League announced the award winners on Monday.
Army junior midfielder Reese Burek was named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore Will Coletti earned faceoff specialist of the week and freshman attack Gunnar Fellows was named rookie of the week.
BU senior Patrick Morrison received defensive player of the week while Loyola junior goalkeeper Luke Staudt was named goalkeeper of the week for the second-straight week.
Army senior goalkeeper Knox Dent, Lafayette junior attack Peter Lehman, Lehigh junior goalkeeper Nick Pecora and junior attack Scott Cole, Loyola freshman attack Matthew Minicus, senior faceoff specialist Eric Pacheco and graduate student defender Cam Wyers earned honorable mentions.
The Patriot League men's lacrosse players of the week are selected in a vote by each school's sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
Offensive Player of the Week
Reese Burek, Army West Point, Jr., M, Fairport, N.Y./Fairport
* Burek led the Army attack in its 14-13 win over No. 8 Rutgers as he recorded a game-high five goals.
* Burek added four ground balls and was an efficient scorer, netting his five goals on eight shot attempts.
Defensive Player of the Week
Patrick Morrison, Boston University, Sr. D, Franklin, Mass./Franklin
* Morrison set career highs with five caused turnovers and six ground balls in the win over Bryant.
* One of his caused turnovers led directly to the Terriers' 15th goal of the game, as BU scored on the fast break after his check in the Bryant end.
* Morrison now has 10 ground balls and is tied for first on the Terriers with seven caused turnovers.
Faceoff Specialist of the Week
Will Coletti, Army West Point, So., FO, Monrovia, Md./Linganore
* Coletti won 19-of-30 faceoffs, in addition to compiling 12 ground balls in the 14-13 win over No. 8 Rutgers.
* The sophomore also scored a fourth-quarter goal to help give the Black Knights a 13-12 lead at the 8:49 mark.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Luke Staudt, Loyola Maryland, Jr., GK, Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee H.S.
* Staudt made 10 saves and had a .667 save percentage in almost 55 minutes of action in the 13-8 win over No. 9 Johns Hopkins.
* Staudt made five saves in the first half and another three in the third quarter as the Greyhounds built an 11-3 lead after three.
Rookie of the Week
Gunnar Fellows, Army West Point, Fr., A, Highlands Ranch, Co./Valor Christian
* Fellows scored two goals and had one assist in the 14-13 victory versus No. 8 Rutgers.
Honorable Mentions
Knox Dent, Army West Point, Sr., GK, Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek
* Dent made 11 saves and had two ground balls in the 14-13 upset over No. 8 Rutgers.
Peter Lehman, Lafayette, Jr., A, Warminster, Pa./Council Rock North
* Lehman netted a career-best five goals off of five shots on goal in Lafayette's 15-8 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday. Lehman also contributed one assist and one ground ball.
Nick Pecora, Lehigh, Jr., GK, Congers, N.Y./Deerfield Academy
* Pecora made 12 saves for the second-straight week as the Mountain Hawks defeated Hobart, 19-13.
Scott Cole, Lehigh, Jr., A/M, Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh
* Cole had six points for Lehigh, scoring four goals and dishing out two assists in the team's 19-13 win against Hobart.
Matthew Minicus, Loyola Maryland, Fr., A, Darien, Conn./Darien
* Minicus had another two-goal outing for the Greyhounds on Saturday as Loyola scored a 13-8 win over No. 9 Johns Hopkins. He finished with three points, adding an assist in the victory.
Eric Pacheco, Loyola Maryland, Sr., FO, Castle Pines, Colo./Valor Christian
* Pacheco led the Loyola possession effort on Saturday in a 13-8 win over No. 9 Johns Hopkins, going 11- of-17 (.647) at the faceoff 'X' while picking up seven ground balls. He also scored his first collegiate goal in the first quarter, giving the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead.
Cam Wyers, Loyola Maryland, Gr., D, Ottawa, Ontario/Everett Academy
* Wyers helped Loyola's defensive unit defeat No. 9 Johns Hopkins on Sunday, holding the Blue Jays to just three goals through three quarters. Wyers had three caused turnovers and three ground balls in the game. He also helped hold Johns Hopkins to a .211 shooting percentage in the game.
