Patriot League Announces Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (2.27.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Boston University and Navy both earned two Patriot League Men's Lacrosse weekly awards, while Lafayette earned one, as the League announced the award winners on Monday.

BU senior attack Vinco D'Alto was named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the week while senior defender Patrick Morrison earned defensive player of the week for the second-straight week.
Navy sophomore faceoff specialist Anthony Ghobriel received faceoff specialist of the week and teammate freshman attack Mac Haley was named rookie of the week.
 
Lafayette freshman goalkeeper Joe Doherty rounded out the awards as goalkeeper of the week.

Army West Point junior attack Paul Johnson and freshman midfielder Evan Plunkett, Bucknell sophomore midfielder Cam Doolan, Lafayette junior attack Peter Lehman and senior defender Sean Rishton, Lehigh freshman defender Richard Checo and fifth-year faceoff specialist Mike Sisselberger, and Loyola junior goalkeeper Luke Staudt all earned honorable mentions.

The Patriot League men's lacrosse players of the week are selected in a vote by each school's sports information director, who is not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Vince D'Alto, Boston University, Sr., A, Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park
* D'Alto paced the Terriers with five goals in Saturday's 12-6 win at No. 20/18 UMass, a team that had allowed just 5.50 goals per game entering the weekend. He scored twice in the fourth quarter to turn a 10-6 game into a 12-6 final.
* He also scored three times in the first half, including the first and fifth goal in a 5-0 run that made it 6-1.
* D'Alto now leads BU with 11 goals and has added five assists for a team-best 16 points.

Defensive Player of the Week
Patrick Morrison, Boston University, Sr. D, Franklin, Mass./Franklin
* Tasked with guarding No. 20/18 UMass' Dillon Arrant, Morrison held him to just one goal while also collecting three ground balls and causing two turnovers in the 12-6 win.
* Morrison was part of a BU defense that held UMass scoreless for the final 20:52 of the contest and limited the Minutemen to just 26 shot attempts.

Faceoff Specialist of the Week
Anthony Ghobriel, Navy, So., FO, Dallas, Texas/Highland Park
* Ghobriel won 19 of the 26 draws (73.1) in Saturday's game at High Point. The sophomore's wins, attempts and win percentage were all career highs.
* The 19 wins were just two off the school record and the most by a Navy player since March 17, 2018, when Joe Varello tied the school record against Loyola with 21.
* The freshman also picked up a career-high seven ground balls.

Goalkeeper of the Week
Joe Doherty, Lafayette, Fr., GK, Malvern, Pa./Malvern Prep
*
Doherty made 10 saves and recorded four goals against for a .720 save percentage in Lafayette's 10-4 win over Binghamton.

Rookie of the Week
Mac Haley, Navy, Fr., A, Shady Side, Md./St. John's College (HS)
* Haley paced Navy with a career-high five points on three goals and two assists against High Point.
* The freshman is tied as Navy's second-leading scorer this season with 11 points (7 goals, 4 assists).
 
Honorable Mentions
Paul Johnson, Army West Point, Jr., A, Bellevue, WA/Bellevue
* Johnson compiled five goals and six assists this past week, adding five ground balls. Johnson had a seven-point game in the win over Wagner with two goals and five assists, before logging a hat trick and an assist in the win over Mercer.
 
Evan Plunkett, Army West Point, Fr., M, Roswell, Ga./Roswell
* Plunkett recorded a hat trick at home in the 20-6 win over Wagner, before scoring twice and assisting twice in the 16-5 road win at Mercer.
 
Cam Doolan, Bucknell, So., M, Westminster, Md./Westminster
 * Doolan led the Bison with four points, including a third-quarter hat trick against Harvard. His three third-quarter goals contributed to a 5-0 Bucknell run that cut its deficit to 10-8.
 
Peter Lehman, Lafayette, Jr., A, Warminster, Pa./Council Rock North
* Lehman scored three goals and chipped in one assist in Lafayette's 10-4 win over Binghamton on Saturday.
 
Sean Rushton, Lafayette, Sr., D, Media, Pa./Malvern Prep
* Rushton picked up seven ground balls, had two caused turnovers, and dished one assist in Lafayette's 10-4 win over Binghamton. Rushton also held Binghamton's leading scorer scoreless in the contest.
 
Richard Checo, Lehigh, Fr., D, Oakton, Va./St. John's College High School
* Checo recorded a career-high of six caused turnovers and picked up a career-high 10 ground balls versus No. 4 Cornell. 

Mike Sisselberger, Lehigh, 5th, FO/M, Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh
* Sisselberger went 14-of-20 at the 'X' and grabbed eight ground balls against No. 4 Cornell.

Luke Staudt, Loyola Maryland, Jr., GK, Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee H.S.
* Staudt finished Saturday's game against No. 13 Rutgers with 14 saves and 10 goals allowed for a .583 save percentage.
