Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Announced (4.25.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University claimed three Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field weekly awards when the League announced honors on Tuesday. Navy collected two and Bucknell received one weekly honor.
 
Boston University’s Vera Sjöberg was named Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week after posting a time of 15:59.72 in the 5,000 meters, the fastest time in the League. Navy junior Brahmir Vick won the men’s track athlete of the week after posting a time of 13.64 in the 110-meter hurdles, tied for 23rd best in Division I.
 
Navy senior Baynes Autrey collected Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the Decathlon at the Navy Spring Invitational II with 7,287 points, the fifth-best in the East Region. Bucknell junior Karen Hull was named women’s field athlete of the week, after breaking the school’s outdoor record in the high jump with a mark of 1.75m.
 
Boston University freshman Jada Smith was named Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week after finishing with a time of 11.74 in the 100 meters at the Michael Johnson Classic. Fellow Terrier Logan Popelka won the men’s rookie of the week for the second consecutive week after posting a nationally-ranked time of 45.96 in the 400 meters.
 
Army West Point’s Nathan Davis and Cameron Smith, Boston University’s Foster Malleck and Cole Tucker, Holy Cross’s Obiamaka Igwenagu, Lehigh’s Abby Klebe and Skyler Mott, and Navy’s Autumn Nicholas all received honorable mentions for their performances last week.

Brahmir Vick, Navy, Jr., Sprints, Middletown, Del. / Middletown
*Vick finished second in the 110m hurdles at the Navy Spring Invitational II with an IC4A-qualifying time of 13.64.
*His time is the fastest in the Patriot League and is tied for 23rd in the country.
 
Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Vera Sjöberg, Boston University, Fr., Distance, Stockholm, Sweden / Rudbeck High School
*Sjöberg finished seventh in the 5,000 meters at the Wake Forrest Invitational with an ECAC-qualifying time of 15:59.72.
*She is one of six freshmen to run a sub-16-minute 5,000m time, ranking best in the Patriot League and 60th in the country.

Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Baynes Autrey, Navy, Sr., Multis, Mountain Brook, Ala / Mountain Brook
*Autrey scored 7,287 points at the Navy Spring Invitational II that ranks fifth-best in the East Region, which qualifies for IC4A’s.
*His point total is the third-most scored in Navy program history, ranking best in the League and 21st in NCAA DI.
 
Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Karen Hull, Bucknell, Jr., Jumps / Hurdles, Randolph, N.J. / Randolph
*Hull competed in four events over the weekend at the Bucknell Team Challenge, highlighted by her ECAC-qualifying mark of 1.75m that earned her first place in the high jump.
*Her mark is the best in the Patriot League this season, ranks 62nd in the country, and set a new school record.

Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week
Logan Popelka, Boston University, Fr., Sprints, Wylie, Tx. / Wylie High School
*Popelka earned eighth and sixth at the Michael Johnson Classic in the 200 and 400 meters with IC4A-qualifying times of 20.76 and 45.96, respectively.
*His time in the 200 meters is the second fastest run in the League. Additionally, his 400 meters time is the fastest in the Patriot League and ranks 31st in Division I.
 
Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week
Jada Smith, Boston University, Fr., Sprints / Jumps, Wellington, Fla. / Palm Beach Central
*Smith finished 17th out of a large field with an ECAC-qualifying time of 11.74 at the Michael Johnson Classic.
*Her time is the second-fastest in the League and is the second-fastest run in BU program history.

Nathan Davis, Army West Point, Fr., Sprints, East Greenbush, N.Y. / Columbia
*Davis finished fourth at the Virginia challenge in the 3,000m steeplechase with and IC4A-qualifying time of 8:55.11, the second-fastest time in the League and is 72nd in NCAA DI.
 
Cameron Smith, Army West Point, Jr., Throws, Blythewood, S.C. / Blythewood
*Smith earned third in the hammer throw at the Virginia Challenge with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 63.62m that ranks third in the Patriot League this season.
 
Foster Malleck, Boston University, Sr., Distance, Kitchener, Ont. / St. Mary’s
*Malleck placed seventh at the Wake Forest Invitational in the 1,500 meters with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:40.10. His time is the fastest in the Patriot League and is ranked 34th in Division I.
 
Cole Tucker, Boston University, So., Throws, Colts Neck, N.J. / Colts Neck
*Tucker finished eighth in the shot put at the Michael Johnson Classic with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 17.38m. His time ranks second in the League and is tied for third all-time in BU program history.
 
Obiamaka Igwenagu, Holy Cross, Sr., Jumps / Hurdles, Auburn, Mass. / Auburn
*Igwenagu placed first in the triple jump with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 12.36m at the Holy Cross Invitational, ranking as the best jump in the League this season and setting a new school record for the event.
 
Abby Klebe, Lehigh, Fr., Sprints / Middle Distance, Chesterbrook, Pa. / Conestoga

*Klebe finished sixth in the 800 meters at the Virginia Challenge with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 2:09.49. Her time is second in the League and .04 behind her League-best time from the previous week.

*Mott earned fourth in the high jump with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 2.06m at the Virginia Challenge, tying for the best jump in the Patriot League this season.

*Nicholas placed second in the hammer throw at the Navy Spring Invitational II with an ECAC-qualifying mark of 59.30m, the best throw in the Patriot League and third-farthest distance for the event in school history.
