BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Lehigh received four of the five Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse weekly awards, while Boston University recorded one, as the League announced the winners on Monday.
BU senior defender Patrick Morrison nabbed defensive of the player of the week for the fourth time this season.
Lehigh junior attack Scott Cole was named the offensive player of the week, fifth-year faceoff specialist Mike Sisselberger earned faceoff specialist of the week and junior goalkeeper Nick Pecora collected goalkeeper of the week.
Lehigh freshman defender Richard Checo rounded out the weekly awards as the rookie of the week.
BU senior attack Vince D’Alto, Colgate freshman midfielder Hunter Drouin and junior attack Michael Minicus, and Navy junior defender Jackson Bonitz, sophomore faceoff specialist Anthony Ghobriel and senior goalkeeper Pat Ryan earned honorable mentions.
The Patriot League men’s lacrosse players of the week are selected in a vote by each school’s sports information director, who is not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
Offensive Player of the Week
Scott Cole, Lehigh, Jr., A, Reisterstown, Md./McDonogh
* Cole had seven points, which tied his career-high in the Mountain Hawks’ 15-9 victory versus Loyola Maryland.
* He scored six goals and dished out an assist.
Defensive Player of the Week
Patrick Morrison, Boston University, Sr., D, Franklin, Mass./Franklin
* Morrison recorded two caused turnovers and had a team-high six ground balls in the win over #9 Army West Point.
* His most important play came in the fourth quarter when he caused a turnover and ground ball that led to the game-winning possession.
Faceoff Specialist of the Week
Mike Sisselberger, Lehigh, 5th, FO/M, Center Valley, Pa./Southern Valley
* Sisselberger won 20-of-25 faceoffs and grabbed 13 ground balls in the 15-9 victory against Loyola.
* Sisselbeger also won the 700th faceoff of his career and broke the Patriot League record for ground balls. He now has 475 career ground balls.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Nick Pecora, Lehigh, Jr., GK, Congers, N.Y./Deerfield Academy
* Pecora had 15 saves, which is one shy of his career high, in the team’s 15-9 victory versus Loyola Maryland.
* Pecora only allowed nine goals and finished with a 62.5 save percentage
of 62.5%.
Rookie of the Week
Richard Checo, Lehigh, Fr., D, Oakton, Va./St. John’s College High School
* Checo caused three turnovers and grabbed two ground balls in the win over Loyola Maryland.
* The freshman anchored a defense that gave up just nine goals to mark the fourth time in the last five games the Lehigh defense allowed single-digit goals.
Honorable Mentions
Vince D’Alto, Boston University, Sr., A, Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park
* D’Alto led the Terriers with five points on two goals and three assists in their 12-11 victory at No. 9 Army West Point.
Hunter Drouin, Colgate, Fr., M, Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy
* Drouin recorded his first career hat trick and third multi-goal game of the season, logging a career-best five points in the win over Holy Cross.
Michael Minicus, Colgate, Jr., A, Darien, Conn./Darien
* Minicus led all scorers with a career-high seven points and tied his career high in goals with five in Colgate's win over Holy Cross.
Jackson Bonitz, Navy, Jr., D, Shrewsbury, Pa./McDonogh School (Md.)
* Bonitz matched up against Dutch Furlong, holding the nation's No. 9 scorer (5.00 PPG) and No. 3 assists man (3.09 APG) to one assist.
Anthony Ghobriel, Navy, So., FO, Dallas, Texas/Highland Park
* Ghobriel won 19-of-24 draws and grabbed a career-high 12 ground balls against Bucknell.
Pat Ryan, Navy, Sr., GK, Groton, Mass./Groton School
* Ryan turned aside 13 shots over the final 45 minutes and held Bucknell to six goals during that time span.
