Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Week Announced (10.16.24)

Army West Point’s Heckel Jr. and Navy’s Tang capture weekly honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa.Army West Point senior John Heckel Jr. and Navy sophomore Emma Tang collected Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Golfer of the Week, respectively, when the League office announced the honors on Wednesday.
 
Heckel Jr. claimed his second Patriot League Men’s Golfer of the Week after winning the individual title at the Commander-in-Chief’s Cup at the Scottsdale (Ariz.) National Golf Club by shooting a 13-under par 131 (64-67).
 
Tang earned Patriot League Women’s Golfer of the Week after a match-play singles win against Maryland’s Nicha Kanpai at the U.S. Naval Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.
 
Bucknell sophomore Hayden Quinn, Holy Cross junior Kate Hong and senior Nolan Schuermann, Lafayette freshman Travis Robertson, Loyola Maryland graduate student Michael Crowley and Navy junior Jack Tarzy received honorable mentions for their performances.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
John Heckel Jr., Army West Point, Sr., Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde
*Heckel Jr. carded a 13-under par 131 (64-67) to win the individual title at the Commander-in-Chief’s (CIC) Cup by four strokes at the par-72 Scottsdale National Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
*He finished with 10 birdies and three eagles during the 36-hole tournament, while his first-round score of 8-under par 64 was the best round by an Army Golfer since 2010.
*The Las Vegas native led the Black Knights to the CIC Cup Championship over Air Force and Navy by 13 strokes.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN'S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Emma Tang, Navy, So., Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills
*Tang defeated two-time All-Big Ten selection Nicha Kanpai 3&1 in her singles match against Maryland on Saturday at the U.S. Naval Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.
*Her result helped the Mids play close with Maryland in a 4.5-3.5 match-play loss.

Hayden Quinn, Bucknell, So., Leesburg, Va./Riverside
*Quinn fired a 1-under par 209 (69-71-69) at the Bucknell Invitational to tie for third out of 108 golfers at the par-70 Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa. He finished the fall with a team-best 72.6 strokes per round average.
*He helped the Bison to a fourth-place finish out of 18 teams in a field that included Patriot League rivals Colgate, Holy Cross and Lafayette.
 
Alex Hill, Colgate, Fy., Victor, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit
*Hill shot an even-par 210 (70-71-69) to place sixth out of 108 golfers at the Bucknell Invitational at the par-70 Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
*The first-year led the Raiders to a second-place finish in a field that included Patriot League rivals Bucknell, Holy Cross and Lafayette.
 
Kate Hong, Holy Cross, Jr., Old Greenwich, Conn./Sacred Heart-Greenwich
*Hong placed 13th out of 63 competitors at the Quinnipiac Classic at the par-72 The Farms Country Club in Wallingford, Conn.
*She carded a 19-over par 235 (77-82-76) to help Holy Cross finish eighth out of 11 teams.
 
Nolan Schuermann, Holy Cross, Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier
*Schuermann finished 18th out of 108 golfers at the Bucknell Invitational at the par-70 Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
*The senior captain fired a 6-over par 216 (68-75-73) to help the Crusaders to a sixth-place finish out of 18 squads.
 
Travis Robertson, Lafayette, Fr., Palm Beach, Fla./The Benjamin School
*Robertson shot a 1-over par 211 (70-74-67) to finish eighth out of 108 golfers at the Bucknell Invitational.
*The freshman led the Leopards to an eighth-place finish out of 18 teams at the par-70 Bucknell Golf Club.
 
Michael Crowley, Loyola Maryland, Gr., Hunt Valley, Md./Calvert Hall College
*Crowley tied for 10th out of 60 competitors at the Georgetown Intercollegiate at the par-71 Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, N.J.
*He shot a 7-over par 220 (73-74-73), helping the Greyhounds tie for fifth among the 12-team field.
 
Jack Tarzy, Navy, Jr., Medford, N.J./The Hun School
*Tarzy shot a 9-under par 135 (66-69) to finish second out of 24 competitors for the Commander-in-Chief’s (CIC) Cup at the par-72 Scottsdale National Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
*The junior led the Mids to a second-place finish, beating Air Force by 12 strokes.
