LEWISBURG – No. 2 Boston University (6-7-7, 5-0-4 PL) captured the 2024 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Soccer Championship on Sunday at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium as the Terriers outlasted top-seeded Bucknell (12-4-3, 7-2-0 PL) in a 10-round penalty-kick shootout.
Boston University claimed the program's fifth Patriot League title and first since 2018. The Terriers also earned the League’s automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA DI Women’s Soccer Championship.
Terriers’ junior defender Morgan Weaver earned Patriot League Tournament MVP honors after scoring her first goal of the season in the 86th minute to tie the game at 1-1. She earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team as did teammates Morgan Fagan (Sr., F), Lily Matthews (Gr., M), and Mackenzie Stickelman (Jr., M).
Bucknell junior midfielder Sydney Hess scored the game’s first goal at the 66:45 mark in the second half and garnered a spot on the All-Tournament Team alongside teammates Jess Benattar (Jr., GK) and Laura Schmidt (Sr., D).
Army West Point’s Kaelan Bradley (Sr., F) and Sage Strohman (Sr., GK) and Loyola Maryland’s Baylee DeSmit (Sr., F), and Olivia Quaranta (Sr., M) rounded out the 11-member All-Patriot League Tournament Team.
The Terriers will learn their postseason fate on Monday, Nov. 11 when the bracket is unveiled during the 2024 NCAA DI Women’s Soccer Tournament Selection Show at 4 p.m., available on

LEWISBURG – No. 2 Boston University claimed the 2024 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League women’s soccer championship after knocking off No. 1 Bucknell in penalty kicks, 8-7, on Sunday afternoon in Lewisburg, Pa.
*After a back-and-forth first half, Bucknell broke a scoreless tie in the 67th minute when Hess volleyed a shot into the back of the net after the Terriers failed to clear a freekick.
*With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Weaver tied the game at 1-1 as the junior delivered a long-range strike into the upper left corner of the net.
*Boston University junior midfielder Giulianna Gianino, sophomore forward Samantha Aronson, senior defender Hugrun Helgadottir, sophomore forward Kat Slott, junior defender Helene Tyburczy, Fagan and Stickelman scored PKs in for the Terriers.
*Terriers’ freshman goalkeeper Bridget Carr made seven saves during regulation and overtime before senior Celia Braun had three stops in penalty kicks.
*Benattar finished with four saves, including two stops in penalty kicks.
*The Bison held the advantage in shots (15-10) and shots on goals (8-5), while corner kicks were even (3-3).
