ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Following an outstanding four-year career on the field and in the classroom, Navy men's soccer standout Charlie Kriel was named to the 2024 Academic All-America Third Team, the College Sports Communicators organization announced Tuesday.

A two-time Academic All-District selection for the Midshipmen, Kriel becomes the eighth player in program history to earn Academic All-American distinction and the first to claim the accolade since Matt Nocita in 2021.

An All-Patriot League Second Team honoree, Kriel moved to the midfield from the backline this season while serving as team captain, providing a steady presence for Navy by playing all 1,440 minutes of the campaign and helping the team post three shutouts. Posting 21 shots on the season, Kriel had a two-game point streak with a highlight-reel tally against Colgate and then assisting on the game-winning goal against Loyola.

Starting each of Navy's 75 games the last four years, Kriel totaled four goals and four assists in his career while playing 6,505 minutes, including logging every minute of action in the Mids' 2022 Patriot League Championship-winning season.

Academically, Kriel holds a 3.55 grade-point average while majoring quantitative economics, being named to the Superintendent's List five times and the Commandant's List six times while earning Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection twice.

Criteria for the CSC Academic All-America teams requires a student-athlete be at least a sophomore and a key contributor to their team and have attained a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average.
