2024 Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Academic Awards Announced (5.2.24)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola Maryland graduate student midfielder Adam Poitras was named the Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete when the League office announced the honors on Thursday. Poitras was one of the 13 members of the Academic All-League team.
 
Eight of the nine institutions were represented on the academic team, with Loyola Maryland each placing three student-athletes on the team. Bucknell, Colgate and Lafayette had two honorees, while Boston University, Holy Cross, Lehigh and Navy rounded out the academic team with one representative each.

BU long-stick midfielder Roy Meyer and Lehigh senior attack Scott Cole received academic honors for the third straight year. Poitras, Colgate junior attack Rory Connor and Holy Cross senior midfielder Matt Major earn spots on the academic team for the second consecutive year.

Nine of the 13 Academic All-League selections were also named to one of the two All-League teams announced on Monday. First team members Cole, Poitras, Navy senior short-stick midfielder Jackson Peters and Colgate junior goalkeeper Matt LaCombe, and second team members Meyer, Bucknell junior attack Connor Davis, Lafayette seniors midfielder John Mathes and defender Tommy McGee and Loyola graduate student attack Evan James made the all-academic team.

Bucknell senior defender Duncan Hill, Colgate’s Connor, Holy Cross’s Majors and Loyola graduate student attack Evan James and junior short-stick midfielder Max McGillicuddy rounded out the academic squad.

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The selection process was conducted by the League’s men’s lacrosse sports information directors, who could not vote for their student-athletes.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year winner for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for the honors.

* Poitras holds a 3.945 grade-point average as he is pursuing his M.B.A. at Loyola Maryland.
* Poitras, a two-time All-Patriot League First Team member, graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology in May 2023 with a 3.876 GPA.
* He has been named Loyola's top male student-athlete, combining athletics, academics and community involvement.
* Poitras, a nine-time Dean’s List honoree, plans to pursue medical school after graduation.
* He finished the regular season with seven consecutive hat tricks and led the League in goals scored (30) during League play.
* He sits in eighth at Loyola in career goals (120) and 11th in career points (177).
