Patriot League Women's Rowing Academic All-Patriot League and Scholar-Athlete of the Year Announced (5.23.24)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Boston University senior Anna Dechantsreiter was named the Patriot League Women’s Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year when the League office announced the honors on Thursday. Dechantsreiter (Philosophy & Neuroscience | 3.96 GPA) was also one of the 11 student-athletes named to the Academic All-League team. 
 
Eight of the nine Patriot League women’s rowing member institutions were represented on this year’s Academic All-Patriot League team. Boston University, Bucknell and Navy each had two student-athletes represented, while Georgetown, Holy Cross, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland and MIT had one honoree apiece. 
 
Bucknell senior Juliette Gaggini (English literary studies & environmental studies | 3.90 GPA) was named to the academic all-League team for the third consecutive season. Meanwhile Dechantsreiter and Navy’s Tenlea Radack (Honors Mathematics | 3.98 GPA) and Maeve Swick (Quantitative Economics | 3.82 GPA) each earned academic honors for the second straight year. 
 
Boston University’s Lulu November (education & human development | 3.94 GPA), Bucknell’s Haley Beardsley (English literary studies | 3.92 GPA), Georgetown’s Kennedy Watson (human science – Pre-Medical | 3.93 GPA), Holy Cross’ Isabella Bokan (English | 3.70 GPA), Lehigh’s Gabriella Pontoriero (architecture | 3.91 GPA), Loyola Maryland’s Daniella Niedermeyer (biology | 3.84 GPA) and MIT’s Claire Johnson (Aerospace Engineering and Physics | 3.92 GPA) were each honored for their first time in their respective careers.  
 
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Teams, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in their respective sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. 
 
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year winner for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male sport and one female sport student-athlete are selected for the honors. 
 
2024 Patriot League Women's Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year 
Anna Dechantsreiter, Boston University, Sr., Boston, Mass./Community Rowing 
*Dechantsreiter carries a 3.96 GPA as a Philosophy and Neuroscience major at Boston University.  
*The senior sat in the number four seat for BU’s gold medal-winning First Varsity Eight boat at the 2024 Patriot League Women’s Rowing Championships.  
*She was a 2023 Patriot League All-Academic Team honoree, while also earning 2023 CSC Academic All-District Team and 2023-24 Boston University Scarlet Key honors.  
*Dechantsreiter will attend Harvard Medical School next year to pursue her Master of Sciences in Bioethics.

The selection process was conducted by the League’s women’s rowing sports information directors, who could not vote for their student-athletes.
