2025 Patriot League Men’s Soccer Academic Awards Announced (11.10.25)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — American senior midfielder Troy Elgersma was named the 2025 Patriot League Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the League office on Monday.
 
Elgersma is one of 11 student-athletes selected to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. Nine of the League’s 10 programs are represented, with Boston University and Bucknell leading the way with two honorees each.
 
Army West Point senior midfielder Eric Lusskin (Mechanical Engineering, 4.11 GPA), Boston University senior defender Aidan Kieffer (Neuroscience, 3.97 GPA) and junior forward Andrea Di Blasio (Advertising, 3.65 GPA), Bucknell junior midfielder David Krumov (Computer Science, 4.00 GPA) and senior goalkeeper Fred Lapworth (Economics, 3.48 GPA) join Elgersma on the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
 
Holy Cross senior defender Julian Beban (Mathematics, 3.73 GPA), Lafayette senior goalkeeper Eric Axtman (Economics, 3.87 GPA), Lehigh junior forward Thomas Robertson (Financial Engineering, 3.73 GPA), Loyola Maryland graduate defender Jordy Luchies (Finance and Business Economics, 4.00 GPA) and Navy senior forward Andrew Schug (Cyber Operations, 3.41 GPA) round out the Academic All-Patriot League honorees.
 
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player within his/her sport. Freshmen or student-athletes in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards announced during the summer.

These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom. The awards are voted on by Patriot League women's soccer sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

Troy Elgersma, American, Sr., M, Redlands, Calif./Redlands
*Elgersma, the 2025 Patriot League Men’s Soccer Midfielder of the Year and a First-Team All-League selection, maintains a 3.68 cumulative GPA as a Business Administration major.
*The senior is a two-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree (2024) and a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll recipient (2023, 2024).
*This season, Elgersma scored five goals and added one assist, helping lead American to a 7-1-1 Patriot League record and its first regular-season title since 2016.
*The Redlands, Calif., native has appeared in 70 matches for the Eagles, starting 54, and has totaled 12 goals and 15 assists for 39 career points.
*Elgersma becomes the first Eagle to earn Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors since Colin Seigfreid in 2012.
