AUBURN, Ala. – Loyola University Maryland's golf team had better scores than seven of the 12 teams at the NCAA Auburn Regional during Tuesday's second round, and the Greyhounds moved up two spots after 36 holes.
Loyola jumped over 30
th-ranked Oregon and No. 50 TCU into 10
th place at the regional with a second-round tally 6-over 294 at the 7,607-yard, par-72 Auburn University Club.
The host Tigers, who are the defending National Champions, lead the tournament at 19-under, 18 strokes in front of No. 12 Texas A&M. New Mexico State is third at even par, while No. 13 UCLA and No. 25 Georgia Tech are 2-over and 4-over.
No. 37 Purdue is sixth with a two-round total of 7-over, a shot ahead of No. 24 SMU and five shots better than College of Charleston. Arkansas Little Rock, which is ranked 48
th, is 15-over, three shots in front of the Greyhounds' 18-over two-day total.
Loyola is two shots up on TCU, three up on Oregon and 18 ahead of USC Upstate.
The Greyhounds had a better second day than UCLA, Georgia Tech, Purdue, Little Rock, TCU, Oregon and USC Upstate.
Eli Spaulding's 1-under 71 led Loyola in the second round, moving him up 34 spots to a tie for 36
th individually.
Mike Crowley birdied his 15
th and 16
th holes of the day, the course's sixth and seventh, to shoot 1-under on the front-nine and card an even-par 72 overall Tuesday. He is 1-under through 36 holes.
Jackson Roman and
Gustavo Rangel are tied for 52
nd at 7-over overall. Roman shot 2-over in the second round, and Rangel posted a 5-over 77.
Connor McGarrity subbed into the Loyola lineup for the second round and shot 6-over 78.
The final round will take place on Wednesday with the Greyhounds playing in threesomes with players from TCU and Oregon, starting at 8:55 a.m. (CDT).
