BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola Maryland sophomore Eli Spaulding and Bucknell sophomore Joelle Johnson received Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Golfer of the Week honors, respectively, when the League office announced honors on Wednesday.
Patriot League Men’s Golfer of the Week
Eli Spaulding, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Freeport, Maine/Freeport
*Spaulding tied for third out of 84 competitors at the RedHawk Intercollegiate by shooting a 7-under 206 (69-67-70) at the par-71 Pittsburgh Field Club in Pittsburgh, Pa.
*He tied for second among the tournament field with 15 birdies, including four of his final six holes to record the second-best finish of his collegiate career.
Patriot League Women’s Golfer of the Week
Joelle Johnson, Bucknell, So., Bowie, Md./Indian Creek
*Johnson won the individual title by shooting a 2-under 208 (70-70-68) at the par-70 Bucknell Invitational, finishing four strokes ahead of the second-place finisher.
*The reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Year recorded 10 birdies and one eagle, helping Bucknell finish first among 16 teams with a 54-hole program-record team score of 860. The Bison’s second-round score of 281 is the best 18-hole score in program history.
Honorable Mentions
Nathan Le-Nguyen, Lehigh, Fy., Toronto, Ontario/Royal St. George’s College
*Le-Nguyen tied for fifth among 82 golfers at The Doc Gimmler Invitational by shooting a 2-under 138 (69-69) before the final round was rained out. He helped the Mountain Hawks finish fifth out of 14 teams.
Lilly Riegger, Lehigh, Fy., Fort Lauderdale, Fla./American Heritage
*Riegger finished second of 55 golfers at The Charge at Quail Valley, shooting a 6-over 222 (79-72-71) to lead the Mountain Hawks for the second straight tournament. She helped Lehigh shoot a final round team score of 290, the third-lowest team round in program history.
Emma Tang, Navy, Sr., Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills
*Tang shot a 13-over 229 (76-74-79) to finish tied for 27th out of 36 competitors at an event featuring some of the nation’s top collegiate golfers. On the first day, Tang opened with a 4-over 76 and closed with a 2-over 74 in the nationally televised event.
