Five Questions Archive

Each Friday during the Patriot League women's basketball season, www.patriotleague.com will provide a brief question-and-answer session with each head coach, which were completed prior to the start of the League schedule in the beginning of January. This week, the interview is with Holy Cross' Bill Gibbons.
Q1 - What are your thoughts on your season thus far (prior to League play)?
A1 - We have played our typical very tough non-conference schedule with a lot of those games on the road and we have competed very well in some of those games and not so well in others. I am concerned about our consistency in playing better basketball for longer stretches of time.
Q2 - What are your expectations of the upcoming League schedule?
A2 - I expect that the League is going to be just as competitive if not more competitive than it has been the last few years. I think the days of a team going undefeated or even having one loss in the conference are over. As I said before, I think that the team that wins the conference will do so with three or four losses in League play.
Q3 - Who will be your toughest competitors once League play beings?
A3 - All I'm looking at right now is Lafayette. They are our League opener and we are concentrating on beating them. They always play us tough whether we are here or on the road and we have to be prepared to play them on Saturday (Jan. 7).
Q4 - How much pride do you take in the Patriot League scholar-athlete model?
A4 - We take a lot of pride in that here at Holy Cross and have done so in each of my 21 years here. It is a pleasure to coach at a school that emphasizes academics first and foremost and it is always a pleasure to work with a group of ladies that take their academics as seriously off the court as they take basketball on the court. It's also nice to compete against student-athletes with the same mindset and who follow that same model.
Q5 - How has your tough out-of-League schedule prepared you for Patriot League play this season?
A5 - The short answer to that question is: we'll see this week. We have three tough League games coming up, beginning Saturday (Jan. 7) with Lafayette. I certainly hope that our non-conference schedule has made us better and more ready to play, but the proof will be how we play when we get out there starting on Saturday.
