Army's Chad Klascius Named 2001 Patriot League Men's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete Of The Year

Bethlehem, Pa. -- Army's Chad Klascius (Sandy, Ore./Sandy Union) has been named the 2001 Patriot League Men's Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Klascius is a senior behavioral science major with a 3.738 grade point average (GPA). He just missed All-League honors with a third place finish in the pole vault. Klascius, who is the two-time Patriot League outdoor pole vault champion, finished in the top three five times over the course of the season and was runner-up twice.

Klascius is the third Black Knight to garner the men's indoor track and field scholar-athlete honor. He joins Gerald Ingalls (1996) and Darrin Hinman (1997).

A scholar-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. The winners are selected in a vote of the League=s sport information directors and the Patriot League staff.

The Patriot League, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary as an all-sports conference, includes Bucknell University, Colgate University, College of the Holy Cross, Lafayette College, Lehigh University, the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy and competes on the NCAA Division I level in 22 sports. The League will add American University to full membership for the 2001-2002 season and includes seven other institutions as associate members in one sport. The League's members consistently rank among the Top 25 Division I programs in the NCAA Graduation Rates Report and ranks fifth among Division I conferences in total number of sports offered (22), including the second-highest total of women's sports (11). The League has automatic bids into the NCAA Championships in 13 sports, including football.
