CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -
Senior Garrett Shannon closed out her Army swimming career fourth on the list of Patriot League Career-High Point Scorers, in an announcement made by the league office on Thursday, March 25. The Fort Myers, Fla., native garnered 183 points at the Patriot League Championships over her four-year career.
Shannon, a three-time Patriot League "All Star," recorded a career-best 54 points at this year's meet, notching three top-five finishes, including a pair of wins. Shannon captured the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events, clocking times of 1 minute, 51.57 and 4:57.38, respectively. She tallied a fifth-place showing in the 100 free, touching the wall in 52.28.
Army head coach John O'Neill, the 2004 Patriot League "Co-Coach of the Year" on the men's side, was pleased with how Shannon performed at this year's championships.
"Shannon had an outstanding season," said O'Neill. "She is one of the best swimmers in Army history, and for her to have her best year as a senior, is as good as it gets."
Shannon earned All-Patriot League honors after her freshman and sophomore seasons when she tallied 49 and 45 points, respectively, at the league championships. She racked up 35 points during her junior year to round out her career scoring.
"To place in the top four over the last four seasons is a testament to her overall career," added O'Neill. "She has been a great competitor and was an outstanding contributor to the Army program all four seasons."
The Army women's swimming and diving team finished fourth at this year's Patriot League Championships.
