Nov. 15, 2010

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Members of the Navy women's soccer team volunteered at a youth soccer clinic this past weekend at the Excel Academy, an all-girls school in Washington, D.C.

Senior captain Jessica Grupp, senior Katie Kelly, freshman Alexes Lopez-Shaw and freshman Ashlynn Soellner participated in the clinic. The Athletes For Hope organization helped coordinate the event, which was for first and second grade girls.

"All of the girls there were so happy and when you are around them, you just kind of light up yourself," said Grupp. "You can really see the potential that these girls have and its feels good to know that you can help make a difference in their lives."

The Midshipmen helped run the clinic and taught basic soccer fundamentals. They also delivered positive messages about the importance of school and hard work.
