Patriot League Announces Corvias Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards (9.18.2017)

 
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Patriot League women’s soccer League play kicked off last week, with Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Lehigh and Navy earning wins.
 
In the first League game of the 2017 season last Friday, Navy grabbed a 2-1 road win against Holy Cross. Both goals came off of set pieces from sophomore Baseley McCaskey who first found the head of Meghan Hegarty (Sr., M) to tie up the game in the 55th minute, 1-1. Five minutes later the Mids earned another corner kick and McClaskey found Liza Harris (Sr., D) who headed the ball into the back of net for what proved to be the game-winner. 
 
Boston U. started League play strong against American with a 6-0 win. Christina Wakefield (Sr., F) led the offense with two finishes in the 23rd and 52nd minute of play. Defensively, Rachel Bloznalis (Gr., D) and the Terriers held American to three shots and one corner kick through 90 minutes of play last Saturday.
 
Emily Crichlow (Sr., F) led Colgate offensively with a goal and an assist against League opponent Loyola Maryland last Saturday. In the seventh minute of play, Crichlow found Mara Cosentino (So., M/F) cutting into the box who then finished the ball into the back of the net to put the Raiders up, 1-0. Several minutes later Crichlow tallied what proved to be the game-winner off a side volley from a cross. Greyhounds’ Claire Beath (Fr., D) scored her first collegiate goal in the 3-1 deficit.
 
Lehigh earned its first League win on the road against Army West Point.  Freshman Ally Friedman picked up her first collegiate and game-winning goal off a corner kick with only two seconds left in the first-half. The Mountain Hawks defense continued to dominate only allowing one shot on goal through 90 minutes of play. Sam Miller (So., GK) picked up her fourth shutout of the season and the 16th of her career.  
 
Bucknell registered its first League win against Lafayette last Saturday. Carly Baggott (Jr., M) turned and finished a redirected header from teammate Meghan Holtz (Sr., D) with just 45 seconds left to play in regulation.

The women’s soccer weekly awards for Sept. 11-17 went to Emily Crichlow (Colgate), Clare Severe (Lehigh), Liza Harris (Navy), Dani Kaufman (Bucknell) and Ally Friedman (Lehigh).

CORVIAS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
EMILY CRICHLOW, COLGATE
Sr., F, Edmonds, Wash.
Crichlow tallied a goal and an assist in the win against League opponent Loyola Maryland last Saturday. The senior scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 26th minute of play and marked her first career game with a goal and an assist.  
 
CORVIAS MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
CLARE SEVERE, LEHIGH
Jr., M, Bethesda, Md.
Severe assisted the Mountain Hawks second goal in the 2-0 victory over Army West Point. Defensively, the junior midfielder and the rest of the Mountain Hawks defense held Army West Point to one shot on goal – none coming in the final 87 minutes of play.

LIZA HARRIS, NAVY
Sr., D, Baltimore, Md.
Harris recorded the game-winner in the 2-1 victory over Holy Cross. The senior headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick from teammate Baseley McClaskey (So., D) in the 60th minute of play.

CORVIAS GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
DANI KAUFMAN, BUCKNELL
So., GK, Wilmette, Ill.
The sophomore registered three saves on 10 shots faced in last Saturday’s win over Lafayette.  Kaufman picked up her second straight shutout of the season and extended her scoreless streak to 198 minutes.
 
CORVIAS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
ALLY FRIEDMAN, LEHIGH
Fr., M, Basking Ridge, N.J.
Friedman scored her first career and game-winning goal in the 2-0 victory over League opponent Army West Point last Saturday. The freshman found the back of the net off a corner kick with just two seconds left in the first-half.

CARLY BAGGOTT, BUCKNELL, Jr., M/F, Hingham, Mass.
Baggott scored the game-winner off a redirected header by teammate Meghan Holtz (Sr., D) with less than a minute left in regulation time.
 
SYDNEY FORTSON, NAVY So., GK, Claremont, Calif.
The sophomore made five saves on ten shots faced, including one save in the 81st minute of play to preserve the Mids 2-1 come-from-behind win over Holy Cross.
 
ALYSSA RIPORTI, LEHIGH Sr., D, Scotch Plains, N.J.
Riporti and the Moutain Hawks defense allowed only one shot on goal through 90 minutes of play last Saturday against League opponent Army West Point. The defense recorded its fourth shutout of the season. 
 
CHRISTINA WAKEFIELD, BOSTON UNIVERSITY Sr., F, East Longmeadow, Mass.
The senior tallied two goals against American last Saturday making it her first multi-score game of the 2017 season. Wakefield currently leads the team with three goals and seven points.
