Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships Final Results (5.5.18)

EASTON, Pa. - The Navy men earned their fifth-consecutive outdoor track & field championship, while the Navy women won for the first time since 2012, and the first time the Navy men and the women have won in the same year at the conclusion of the 2018 Patriot League Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Lafayette College's Metzgar Athletic Fields Complex.

The Midshipmen men tallied 281 points to outscore second-place Army West Point (217) and third-place Bucknell (114.5) for their fifth-straight and sixth-overall Outdoor title. Boston University (84), Lehigh (64.5), Lafayette (52), Holy Cross (21), American (12) and Colgate (10) round out the order of finish for the League's nine men's programs. Navy first-year head coach Jamie Cook was named the Patriot League Men's Head Coach of the Year. The Midshipmen claimed gold in seven of the 22 events and placed-second in eight additional events.

The Navy women won for the first-time since 2012 and only the third-time in League history by registering 178.5 points for the team title. Head Coach Carla Criste was named the Patriot League Women's Coach of the Year for the second-time. Defending champion Bucknell finished second with 141 points, while Lehigh took third-place with 134 points. Army West Point (129), Boston University (115.5), Holy Cross (93), American (28), Loyola Maryland (25), Lafayette (9), and Colgate (4) rounded out the women's field.

Four Patriot League Championship records were broken as the women's and men's side had two apiece during the meet. Lehigh junior Kaitlyn Toman broke the pole vault record set in 2006 by Bucknell's Melanie Buczko. Toman's vault of 3.96 meters narrowly surpassed Buczko's mark of 3.95. In the javelin, Bucknell's freshman Maura Fiamoncini set a new record in winning with a toss of 50.68-meters, surpassing the old mark of 48.98 meters set in 2007 by Navy's Danielle Still. Fiomoncini was named Patriot League Female Rookie of the Meet for her performance. The 1994 high jump record of Army West Point's Brian Smith of 2.15-meters was broken by fellow Black Knight Jeff Giannettino, who cleared the bar at 2.16-meters. The Navy 4x100-meter relay team of Aaron Watson, Devin Enslen, Evan Lexo and Demtrius Lanier broke the Patriot League Championship record set in 2016 by Army West Point by turning in a time of 39.96-seconds.

Lafayette senior David McGriff won his third-straight discus title at the Outdoor championships along with the hammer throw title to earn the 2018 Patriot League Male Field Athlete of the Meet.

Army West Point senior thrower Briyah Brown took home the 2018 Patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet, winning the shot put and the hammer throw.

Army West Point sophomore Calli McMullen was named the 2018 Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Meet, claiming gold in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and as a member of the 4x100-meter relay. McMullen was the 2017 Patriot League Female Rookie of the Meet.

Repeating as the 2018 Patriot League Male Track Athlete of the Meet was Bucknell junior Billy Melchionni. Melchionni won the 200-meter, 400-meter and ran the anchor leg of the winning 4x400-meter relay.

Navy freshman hurdler Clayton Thompson was named the 2018 Patriot League Male Rookie of the Meet, after winning the 400-meter hurdles and placing second in the 110-meter hurdles.

EVENT CAPSULES:

100-METER DASH
For the men, Boston University graduate student Justin Flynn claimed victory in the 100-meter dash in 10.45-seconds over Navy's second and third-place finishers in senior Jahmaal Daniel (10.54-seconds) and sophomore Evan Lexo (10.58-seconds). On the women's side, Army West Point sophomore Calli McMullen struck gold in the 100-meter dash for the second year-in-a-row with a time 11.69-seconds over Navy junior Amanda Henson (11.87-seconds), taking the silver and Boston University junior Ebony Brown (11.90-seconds) finishing with bronze.

100-METER HURDLES
On the women's side Boston University senior Tehya Noell struck gold for the second-time this weekend - she won the women's long jump on Friday - as she won the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 13.46-seconds, while senior teammate Ally Saccone took the silver in 13.82-seconds. Army West Point sophomore Lynne Mooradian (14.03-seconds) earned the bronze.

110-METER HURDLES
For the men, Navy junior Kordell Williams defended his 2017 championship win with gold in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14:32, edging out freshman teammate Clayton Thompson (14:41) to take the silver, while Holy Cross junior Brandon Thornhill (14:64) earned bronze.

400-METER HURDLES
For the men, Navy took the top-three spots as freshman Clayton Thompson (52.30) edged out sophomore (and 2017 champion) Cameron Hurd (52.65), while junior Kordell Williams (53.69) finished in third. On the women's side Navy senior Brittany Burg won the gold in 59.82-seconds, while Army West Point sophomore Lynne Mooradian (1:01.09) took silver and Navy sophomore Christina Quigley (1:01.19) earned the bronze.

200-METER DASH
Bucknell junior Billy Mechionni won the men's 200-meter dash in 20.99, beating Army West Point freshman Kedrin Jefferson (21.15). 2017 champion Devin Enslen finished third in 21.40. Army West Point sophomore Calli McMullen followed up her win in the women's 100-meter dash with a victory in the women's 200-meters in 24.13-seconds. Navy junior Amanda Henson (24.39-seconds) and Boston University junior Ebony Brown (24.54-seconds) finished second and third, respectively.

400-METER DASH
Bucknell junior Billy Melchionni successfully defended his 2017 championship in the 400-meter dash by winning in 47.30-seconds. Navy teammates in freshman Eric Hughey and sophomore John Finnegan took silver and bronze in 47.86-seconds and 47.88-seconds, respectively. Navy placed first and second in the women's 400-meter dash as junior Amanda Agana won in 55.05-seconds and senior Brittany Burg took second in 55.54-seconds. Boston University senior Jordan Coverson claimed third with a time of 55.84-seconds.

800-METER RUN
In the men's 800-meter run, Army West Point took the top-two spots with sophomore Jackson Sullivan winning gold in 1:51.62, while senior Nickolas Causey took the silver for the second-consecutive year in 1:51.65. Bucknell junior Scott Gulizio took bronze in 1:52.27. For the women's 800-meter, American senior Brianna Belo (2:07.79) won gold over Lehigh sophomore Brooke Schaeffer (2:09.44) for silver, who edged out the 2017 champion and Holy Cross senior Zoe Matherne (2:09.78), taking the bronze.

1500-METER RUN
Boston University sophomore Paul Luevano won gold in the 1500-meter run in 3:47.48, followed closely by Army West Point teammates in Keagan Smith (3:48.91) and senior Nickolas Causey (3:49.51). In the women's 1,500-meter run, Bucknell senior Christine Bendzinski won by almost three-seconds with a time of 4:24.78. Army West Point junior Abby Halbrook (4:27.27), the 2017 champion took second, who edged out third-place runner and Holy Cross senior Zoe Matherne (4:27.39).


3000-METER STEEPLECHASE
Lehigh sophomore Victor Yegon won gold in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:06.58. The silver was earned by Bucknell freshman Connor McMenamin in 9:09.79 edging out Boston University sophomore Greg Pelose in 9:09.94, taking the bronze. For the women, Lehigh sophomore Ashleigh Crawford struck gold after taking the bronze in 2017 with a winning time of 10:31.48 along with junior teammate Stacie Nadel following in second with a time of 10:38.42, while Army Wet Point sophomore Andrea Karlen Colleen finished third in 10:42.25.

5000-METER RUN
Navy senior Cory Donley (14:22.89) took the gold in the 5000-meter run by winning over Boston University sophomore Paul Luevano (14:27.69) and Army West Point sophomore Robert Santoyo (14:29.66). On the women's side, Bucknell took the top-two spots as junior Colleen Buckley followed up her victory in the 10000-meter run with a gold in 17:02.66, followed closely by senior Christine Bendzinski in 17:03.40 for the silver. Holy Cross sophomore Jenna Gasparrini took the bronze in 17:13.14.

4X100-METER RELAY
Navy's team of junior Aaron Watson, senior Devin Enslen, sophomore Evan Lexo and junior Demetrius Lanier took gold in the 4x100-meter relay with a winning time of 39.96-seconds, which was a new Patriot League Championship record set in 2016 by Army West Point. Taking the silver was Army West Point's team that consisted of junior Andre Vaughn, junior Ben Sims, freshman Kedrin Jefferson and senior Tyler Davis (40.07-seconds), while the bronze went to Boston University's team of graduate student Justin Flynn, sophomore Chiebuka Onwuzurike, senior Jordan Love and freshman Nikolas Smith (40.66-seconds). In the women's 4x100, Army West Point's all sophomore team of Lynne Mooradian, Yasheika Beckaroo, Emily Malone and Calli McMullen took gold in 45.69-seconds over Navy's team of junior Amanda Henson, freshman Chelsey Edwards, sophomore Regine Tugade and junior Amanda Agana (45.98-seconds). Boston University's team of graduate student Ally Saccone, junior Jordan Coverson, junior Ebony Brown and senior Tehya Noell took the bronze in 46.57-seconds.

4X400-METER RELAY
In the men's 4x400-meter relay, Bucknell's team of sophomore Steven Rizio, freshman Robert Dessoye, freshman Alex Dessoye and junior Billy Melchionni (3:12.47) narrowly edged out Army West Point's team of junior Marcus Denham, freshman Drew Bullen, senior Tyler Davis and sophomore Tyrell Maddox (3:12.63) to take the gold. Navy's team of sophomore John Finnegan, sophomore Cameron Hurd, senior Daniel Kelly and freshman Eric Hughey finished in third (3:12.95). On the women's side, Navy's team of senior Brittany Burg, freshman Chelsey Edwards, sophomore Christina Quigley and junior Amanda Agana won the 4x400-meter relay in 3:44.35over Loyola Maryland's junior Molly Smith, freshman Senna Ohlsson, sophomore Molly Johnson and freshman Courtney Kenny (3:49.99). Bucknell placed third with the quartet of sophomore Rebecca Rooney, senior Carli Lucke, freshman Jennifer Dietrich and freshman Tiara Tardy (3:50.67).

HIGH JUMP
In breaking the longstanding Patriot League Championship record set in 1994 by Army's Brian Smith, Army West Point junior Jeff Giannettino won the men's high jump, clearing the bar at 2.16-meters (7'1"), beating Bucknell senior Nicholas Lombardo, the 2017 champion, who jumped 2.10-meters (6'10.75"). Army West Point sophomore Bernard Jenkins placed third at 2.02-meters (6'7.50"). On the women's side, Lehigh sophomore Jordan Otto edged out Bucknell senior Lauren Hudson to win the high jump. They both cleared the bar at 1.70-meters (5'7"), but the finish was determined by misses. Boston University sophomore Gillian Morrison took the bronze with a jump of 1.65-meters (5'5").

TRIPLE JUMP
Boston University graduate student David Oluwadara won the gold in the men's triple jump for the fourth-straight year with a leap of 15.14-meters (49'8.25"). Taking the silver was Navy sophomore Cedric Williams (14.59-meters/47'10.50"), while the bronze went to Bucknell junior Reggie Harris (14.47-meters/47'6.50"). For the women, Boston University senior Lovie Burleson won the event with a leap of 12.18-meters (39'11.50") over Bucknell sophomore Kaitlyn Salisbury (12.14-meters/39'10.50"). Navy freshman Audrey Fernandez finished in third with a jump of 11.98-meters (39'3.75").

SHOT PUT
Navy took the top-two spots in the men's shot put with over freshman John Barber winning with a toss of 17.51-meters (57"5.50") over junior Michael Milcarek, who threw 17.00-meters (55'9.25"). Army West Point sophomore placed-third with a toss of 16.83-meters (55"2.75"). On the women's side, Army West Point senior Briyah Brown followed up her win in Saturday's hammer throw by earning gold in the shot put with a distance of 15.39-meters (50'6"). Navy senior Ashanti Curry took the silver with a toss of 14.54-meters (47'8.50") while Holy Cross freshman Abbie Mokwuah took the bronze (13.57-meters/44'6.25").

DISCUS
Lafayette senior David McGriff won the discus for the third-consecutive year with a toss of 53.57-meters (175'9"). Army West Point sophomore Michael Renard placed-second with a toss of 52.82-meters (173'3"), while Navy junior Michael Milcarek took bronze with a toss of 51.33-meters (168'5"). On the women's side, Lehigh freshman Brittany Curtin won gold in the discus with a distance of 47.87-meters (157'1"). Navy took the silver and bronze with sophomore Rachel Duncavage (47.15-meters/154'8") finishing in second and freshman Monet Salazar (44.76-meters/146'10") taking the third spot.

DECATHLON
Navy junior Ben Stewart won the decathlon with a 6,580 point total over Lafayette sophomore Tyler Hubeny (6,405 points). Stewart wrapped up the second-day of the competition with winning the pole vault (4.90-meters) and the 1500-meter run (4:30.46). Navy senior Nikolas Fagen finished third-place with 6,301 points.

HEPTATHLON
Boston University sophomore Gillian Morrison won the heptathlon with 4,769 points, followed by Lehigh freshman Madison Harding (4,474-points) taking the silver and Navy sophomore Catlen Goss earning the bronze (4,353 points).
