Patriot League Announces Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (3.9.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bucknell and Lehigh collected two of the Patriot League Women’s Soccer weekly awards while Loyola Maryland took home one, as the League announced the awards on Tuesday.

Loyola Maryland sophomore forward Ada Clare Tempert was named the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Lehigh sophomore Mattie Murphy received midfielder of the week honors and junior Bridget Casey was named defensive player.

Bucknell freshman Jenna Hall rounded out the awards as both the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week.

Lehigh senior goalkeeper Miranda Royds an earned honorable mention.

Offensive Player of the Week
Ada Clare Tempert, Loyola Maryland, So., F, Baltimore, Md./Mercy
* Tempert factored in both Loyola goals during a 2-1 season-opening win over Colgate on Monday.
* The sophomore scored her first collegiate goal in the 54th minute, then sent a cross from the right side, which was deflected in by a Raider defender for Loyola's game-winner with 2:33 left in regulation.
* The Greyhounds’ 2-1 win marked their first victory over Colgate since 2015, snapping a four-game losing streak in the series.
 
Midfielder of the Week 
Mattie Murphy, Lehigh, So., M, Apex, N.C./Middle Creek
* Murphy assisted on the game's only goal scored in the 53rd minute by junior defender Bridget Casey in the Mountain Hawks’ 1-0 win over the Eagles.
* The sophomore was also a key part of the Mountain Hawks' defense, which allowed just five shots and two on goal, including zero shots over the final 31:09.

Defensive Player of the Week
Bridget Casey, Lehigh, Jr., D, Hatfield, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy
* In the 1-0 win versus American, Casey was part of a defensive line that allowed just five shots all game, only two on goal.
* The junior defender also scored the game's only goal, her first-career goal, in the 53rd minute from distance off an assist from Murphy.
 
Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week 
Jenna Hall, Bucknell, Fr., GK, Southington, Conn./Miss Porter’s School
* Hall made her collegiate debut in the second half in the team’s 0-0 double-overtime draw with Lafayette.
* Hall made 10 saves on 14 shots faced in 65 minutes of action.


Honorable Mentions
Miranda Royds, Lehigh, Sr., GK, Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham
* Royds made a pair of saves for her 10th career shutout in Saturday’s 1-0 win over American.
* Both saves came within six minutes after the Mountain Hawks scored the game's first and only goal in the 53rd minute to keep Lehigh ahead, 1-0.
