Patriot League Announces Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week (3.22.22)

Army West Point and Navy split weekly honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point and Navy split the six Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field weekly honors when the League office announced the first set of awards of the season on Tuesday.
 
Army West Point senior Emily Mikoud collected Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors after posting the 10th-best hammer throw distance in NCAA DI with a heave of 63.73 meters at the West Point Spring Open. Sophomore Luke Griner was named men’s outdoor track athlete of the week after winning the 800 meters (1:51.24) in an IC4A-qualifying time. Freshman Emily Fink claimed women’s outdoor rookie of the week honors after finishing second in the hammer throw with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 60.61 meters.
 
Navy sophomore Braden Presser earned Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week by posting the second-best javelin throw (73.55 meters) in NCAA DI this season. Junior Molly Mangan received women’s outdoor track athlete of the week after winning the 200 meters in an ECAC-qualifying time of 2437, the fourth-fastest time in Navy history and best in the League this season. Freshman Jacques Guillaume won the 400 meters (47.88) and the 400-meter hurdles (47.88) at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Meet in San Diego, Calif. to win men’s outdoor rookie of the week honors.
 
Army West Point sophomore Jazmine Alderman and junior Ethan Hesson, Colgate junior Dominique Groguhe, Lehigh freshman Jonathan Bennett and junior Ashley Griesmeyer and Navy senior Jadyn Tiracave received honorable mentions for their performances this week.
 
Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Luke Griner, Army West Point, So., North Webster, Ind./Wawasee
*Griner won the 800 meters at the West Point Spring Open with an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:51.24.
*He won the 800 meters for the second-consecutive meet while holding the fastest time in the Patriot League this season.

Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Molly Mangan, Navy, Jr, Sprints, Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon
*Mangan posted three first-place finishes, including being part of Navy’s 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay squads that broke meet records at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Meet in San Diego, Calif.
*She won the 200 meters with an ECAC-qualifying time of 24.37, the fourth-fastest time in Navy history and the best mark in the Patriot League this season.

 Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Braden Presser, Navy, So., Javelin, Liberty, Mo./Liberty North
*Presser won the javelin throw with a meet record and IC4A-qualifying distance of 73.55 at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Meet in San Diego, Calif.
*His throw was the second-best in Navy history and ranks second in NCAA DI this season.

Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Emily Mikoud, Army West Point, Sr., Throws, Plymouth, Mass./Foxcroft Academy
*Mikoud won the hammer throw with an ECAC-qualifying and personal-best distance of 63.73 meters. Her throw was a personal record and the best in the Patriot League and 10th in NCAA DI this season.
*She also finished second in the discus with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 48.78 meters.
  
Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Rookie of the Week
Jacques Guillaume, Navy, Fr., Sprints, Jacksonville, Fla./Mandarin
*Guillaume won the 400 meters (47.88) and 400-meter hurdles (54.47) at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Meet in San Diego, Calif. His 400m time is the fastest in the Patriot League this season, while his 400m hurdles time is second-best.
*He also ran the anchor leg of Navy’s winning 4x100-meter relay (41.96) and 4x400-meter relay (3:19.91) teams.  
 
Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Rookie of the Week
Emily Fink, Army West Point, Fr., Throws, Three Lakes, Wis./Three Lakes
*Fink posted a career-high and an ECAC-qualifying distance of 60.61 meters in the hammer throw, finishing second at the West Point Spring Open.
*Her throw ranks second in the Patriot League and 21st in NCAA DI.  
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Jazmine Alderman, Army West Point, So., Sprints, St. Petersburg, Fla./Admiral Farragut Academy
*Alderman won the 100 meters (12.23) and 200 meters (25.13) at the West Point Spring Open. Her 100m time is the second-fastest mark in the Patriot League this season, while her 200m time ranks third.
 
Ethan Hesson, Army West Point, So., Pole Vault, Lucas, Texas/Wylie
*Hesson won the pole vault at the West Point Spring Open by clearing an IC4A-height of 4.95 meters.
 
Dominique Groguhe, Colgate, Jr., Throws, Port Reading, N.J./Woodbridge
*Groguhe broke the Colgate program record in the hammer throw with a heave of 49.1 meters at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. She also placed second in the discus with a throw of 44.81 meters.
 
Jonathan Bennett, Lehigh, Fr., Sprints, Richland, Wash./Hanford
*Bennett finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.55. He also posted an IC4A-qualifying time of 10.78 in the 100 meters.
 
Ashley Griesmeyer, Lehigh, Jr., Sprints, Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg
*Griesmeyer finished third in the 100-meter hurdles at the Penn Challenge with a time of 15.07.
 
Jadyn Tiracave, Navy, Sr., Throws, Ashville, Pa./Penn Cambria
*Tiracave won the javelin with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 46.40 meters. It is the top throw in the Patriot League this season and ranks 31st in NCAA DI.
