BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point senior Dragon Theam and Richmond freshman Hannah Lydic claimed Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Golfer of the Week, respectively, when the League office announced honors.
Theam collected Patriot League Men’s Golfer of the Week after shooting an 8-under par 134 (65-69) at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate to finish second out of 90 golfers.
Lydic was named Patriot League Women’s Golfer of the Week after collecting individual medalist honors at the William & Mary Invitational at the par-72 Kingsmill Resort River Course. She won the tournament by seven strokes while breaking the Richmond 54-hole record by 10 strokes.
Boston University sophomore Christy Chen, Bucknell freshman Paige Richter, Holy Cross sophomore Owen Egan, Lehigh senior David Hurly and Loyola Maryland junior Mike Crowley received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Dragon Theam, Army West Point, Sr., Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School
*Theam shot an 8-under par 134 (65-69) to finish second out of 90 golfers at the par-71 Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate at Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Berlin, Conn.
*He shot a 6-under par 65 with six birdies during the first round.
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Hannah Lydic, Richmond, Fr., Ocean View, Del./Sussex Academy
*Lydic claimed individual medalist honors at the 54-hole William & Mary Invitational by shooting an 11-under par 205 (65-71-69) to win by seven strokes.
*Her 54-hole total of 205 broke Richmond’s individual tournament scoring record by 10 strokes.
*The Ocean View Del. native shot a 7-under par 65 in the first round to break Richmond’s single-round scoring record by two strokes.
HONORABLE MENTION
Christy Chen, Boston University, So., Guangzhou, China/Guangzhou Foreign Language School
*Chen shot a 3-over par 216 (68-77-71) to finish 13th out of 81 competitors at the 54-hole Yale Invitational. The sophomore shared the lead after the first round, turning in a collegiate-best 3-under par 68 at the par-71 Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Conn.
Paige Richter, Bucknell, Fr., Camp Hill, Pa./Camp Hill
*Richter shot an 11-over par 227 (73-78-76) to finish tied for 19th out of 60 golfers at the William & Mary Invitational at the par-72 Kingsmill Resort River Course.
Owen Egan, Holy Cross, So., Winchester, Mass./Winchester
*Egan shot a 4-under par 138 (69-69) at the 36-hole Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate at the par-71 Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Berlin, Conn.
David Hurly, Lehigh, Sr., Newtown Square, Pa./Haverford School
*Hurly tied for ninth by shooting a 7-under par 203 (68-67-68) at The Doc Gimmler at the par-70 Bethpage Red Course in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Mike Crowley, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Hunt Valley, Md./Calvert Hill
*Crowley shot a 3-over par 219 (75-72-72) to finished tied for 25th at the Rod Myers Invitational at the par-72 Duke University Golf Club. His strong showing helped the Greyhounds move past Princeton, Penn State and East Carolina in the team standings.
