BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Patriot League Tennis Players of the Week winners were announced on Tuesday as Holy Cross junior Connor Nelson was named the male player of the week. Colgate freshman Amelia Galin earned female player of the week honors.
Army West Point freshman Maria Drobotova, Boston University freshman Alejandro Licea, Bucknell senior Michael Owen, Bucknell freshman Abby Platt, Holy Cross sophomore Ahana Nagarkatti and Navy freshman Sia Chaudry received honorable mentions.
Male Player of the Week
Connor Nelson, Holy Cross, Jr., Mantoloking, N.J. Christian Brothers Academy
*On court two, Nelson defeated Stonehill’s Christian Duffy in straight sets (6-3, 6-1).
*In doubles action, Duffy and teammate William Kelleher beat Stonehill, 6-4, on court two.
*The junior’s pair of wins led the Crusaders to their first win of the season over a Division 1 opponent.
Female Player of the Week
Amelia Galin, Colgate, Fr., Westport, Ct./Staples
*Galin won both her matches to help Colgate move to 3-3 on the season with a 5-2 win over Rider.
*The freshman beat Rider’s Andrea Sydow (6-2, 6-2) in her court-one singles match.
*On court-one doubles play, Galin teamed up with Emme Levenson for a 6-1 victory.
Honorable Mention
Maria Drobotova, Army West Point, Fr., Boca Raton, Fl.
* Drobotova defeated George Washington’s Sarah Bodewes in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-1) on court three. On court two, the freshman bested Georgetown’s Chloe Bendetti (6-1, 7-5).
Alejandro Licea, Boston University, Fr., San Salvador, El Salvador/The Oaks Private School (Fla.)
* Licea helped BU earn a 5-2 win over Wagner with a 6-1, 6-2 No. 1 singles victory over Rodrigo Perez.
Michael Owen, Bucknell, Sr., Folkestone, United Kingdom/The Harvey Grammar School
*Owen defeated Howard (6-1, 6-0) on court three singles. In court-three doubles play, Owen and teammate Nick Mueller had wins over Howard (6-1) and Coppin State (6-1).
Abby Platt, Bucknell, Fr., Texas/Greenhill School
*Platt went 2-0 in singles, and 2-0 in doubles to help Bucknell defeat both St. Bonaventure and
Coppin State. In the top singles position, the freshman beat Coppin State’s Megan Etienne 6-0, 6-1. On court three, Platt won 7-5, 7-6 (3) over Isabella Venter of St. Bonaventure.
Ahana Nagarkatti, Holy Cross, So., West Hartford, Ct. /Kingswood Oxford
*Nagarkatti won her court-one match (6-3, 6-4) over American International College. In doubles play, the sophomore teamed up with Ashley Zilora for a 6-4 court-one victory.
Sia Chaudry, Navy, Fr., Midlothian, Va./Clover Hill
*The freshman has won six-straight singles matches including court-three wins over Tampa, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3, and Air Force 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 this past weekend.
