Army Upsets Rutgers in Home Opener
Army West Point knocked off the then-No. 8 ranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights, in the first home game of the season last weekend. The victory marked the 10th consecutive season that the program has had a victory over a ranked opponent. Army junior Reese Burek led the offensive attack, scoring five goals to match his career-high set last season. Gunnar Fellows, Jacob Morin and Paul Johnson each had two goals for the Black Knights. Sophomore Will Colletti won 19-of-30 faceoffs, in addition to compiling 12 ground balls in the 14-13 win.
Loyola Maryland Takes Down Johns Hopkins
Loyola Maryland recorded a 13-8 victory over then-No. 9 Johns Hopkins last weekend. Freshman attack Matthew Minicus had another two-goal outing for the Greyhounds. Senior Eric Pacheco led the Loyola possession effort going 11-of-17 (.647) at the faceoff 'X' while picking up seven ground balls. Graduate student Cam Wyers helped Loyola's defensive unit hold the Blue Jays to just three goals through three quarters. Wyers had three caused turnovers and three ground balls in the game. Junior goalkeeper Luke Staudt made 10 saves and had a .667 save percentage in almost 55 minutes of action in the win. Loyola now has a pair of victories (Maryland, Johns Hopkins) over top-10 teams this season.
Patriot League Announces Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (2.20.23)
Army West Point earned three of the five Patriot League Men's Lacrosse weekly awards, while Boston University and Loyola Maryland earned one, as the League announced the award winners on Monday. Army junior midfielder Reese Burek was named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore Will Coletti earned faceoff specialist of the week and freshman attack Gunnar Fellows was named rookie of the week. BU senior Patrick Morrison received defensive player of the week while Loyola junior goalkeeper Luke Staudt was named goalkeeper of the week for the second-straight week.

Five Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Student-Athletes Named to 2023 Tewaaraton Watch List
The Tewaaraton Foundation released the first 50 men’s players named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Friday, with five from the Patriot League. Boston University senior attack Vince D’Alto and senior long-stick midfielder Roy Meyer, Lehigh graduate student faceoff specialist Mike Sisselberger, Loyola Maryland graduate student short-stick defensive midfielder Payton Rezanka, and Navy senior midfielder Patrick Skalniak were named to the watch list. Players not named to this initial list will have opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch List additions will be announced on March 7 and March 28, before the field will be narrowed to 25 men’s and 25 women’s nominees on April 18.

Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Awards
The Boston University Terriers men's lacrosse team was selected as the 2023 Patriot League men's lacrosse preseason favorite with 127 points and 15 first-place votes. Loyola Maryland earned the second spot in the poll with 105 points and one first-place vote, while Navy tallied two first-place votes to go with 92 points. Army West Point placed fourth with 87 points and Lehigh followed with 84 points to round out the top five. Bucknell earned 54 points for sixth place, followed by Colgate (46), Lafayette (37), and Holy Cross (16).
