ATHENS, Ga. - Sophomore Christy Chen of the Boston University women's golf team opened the 2023 NCAA Athens Regional by shooting a 6-over 78 in the first round at UGA Golf Course on Monday.

Chen's round started on hole 10 and included a birdie and seven bogeys. She will enter Tuesday's second round in a tie for 48th in the 66-golfer tournament. Furman's Anna Morgan leads the tournament after shooting an opening-round 68.

Chen was solid on the four par 5s, recording a birdie on hole 12 and pars on each of the other three.

Tuesday's tee time for Chen is set for 8:55 a.m.
