Annapolis, Md. – No. 8 Lafayette earned a 4-0 win over No. 9 Holy Cross in the first round of the 2024 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Championship on Thursday at the U.S. Naval Academy’s Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium in Annapolis, Md.
The Leopards will face top-seeded Boston University in the quarterfinals on Friday at 8:30 a.m.
Lafayette captured the first point of the match with two victories in doubles action. On court one, Olivia Boeckman and Ally Bauer claimed a 6-1 win over Holy Cross’ Maddie Hamm and Alison Lynn, while Hanna Ganchi and Carmen Merkel notched a 6-0 victory over the Crusaders’ Caroline Carlson and Ahana Nagarkatti on court two.
In singles play, Boeckman gave the Leopards a 2-0 lead with a No. 4 victory over the Crusaders’ Carlson. Lafayette increased its lead to 3-0 when Merkel bested Lindsay Riordan on court three (6-0, 6-0).
Ally Waldman sealed the win for Lafayette with a 6-0, 6-1 court-five win over Caroline Fredey.
