Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athletes and Academic All-League Teams Announced (5.9.24)

BU's Bladon, Navy's Taylor Earn Scholar-Athlete of the Year Nods

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy senior Annie Taylor and Boston University senior Stuart Bladon were named the Patriot League Women’s and Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athletes of the Year when the League office announced academic honors on Thursday. Taylor and Bladon were also among the 42 student-athletes named to the women’s and men’s Academic All-Patriot League Teams. 

Twenty-one women’s and 21 men’s track and field student-athletes were named to the academic All-League squad. Army West Point combined to place 10 student-athletes on the two teams, while Patriot League men’s and women’s champion Navy placed eight student-athletes on the two teams. Boston University and Holy Cross had five, with Lehigh grabbing four honorees. Bucknell (3), Colgate (3), Lafayette (2), American (1) and Loyola-Maryland (1) rounded out the awards. 

Voting for the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League Teams are conducted by the League men’s and women’s outdoor track and field sports information directors. 
 
The Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. 

To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. 


2024 Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year 
Annie Taylor, Navy, Jr., Multis, Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth 
*Taylor is a senior mathematics major with a 4.00 cumulative GPA. 
*She repeated as the gold medalist at the 2024 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the heptathlon with a score of 4,967 points. 
*The Nashville, Tenn. native also competed in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles at the 2024 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship. 
*She currently ranks first in the Academic Order of Merit at the U.S. Naval Academy and second in Military Order of Merit among her 2024 classmates.  
*Taylor has now won back-to-back Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. 
 
2024 Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year 
Stuart Bladon, Boston University, Sr., Multis, Newbury, England / The Downs School 
*Bladon is a senior economics and neuroscience double major who carries a 3.86 cumulative GPA. 
*He won gold in the decathlon at the 2024 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships with 7,171 points. 
*Bladon ranks 34th in NCAA Division I in the decathlon.  
   
Men’s Academic All-Patriot League Team Breakdown 
American graduate student Row Sullivan (strategic communication, 3.91 GPA) earned a spot on the academic All-League squad for the fourth-consecutive season. With the honor, Sullivan becomes the first student-athlete in Patriot League history to be named to the Academic All-League team four times. 

Meanwhile, Navy’s Braden Presser (mathematics, 3.91 GPA) all received Academic All-Patriot League honors for the third-consecutive outdoor season, becoming just the third three-time honoree. Presser was also the gold medalist in the javelin at the 2024 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. 

Several honorees appeared on the Men’s Outdoor Track and Field First-Team All-Patriot League squad alongside their All-Academic selection. Boston University’s Foster Malleck (financial management, 3.94) won gold in the 1,500m, while Navy’s Justin Mumford (aerospace engineering, 3.94 GPA) finished first in the 10,000m as the other distance runner to appear on both teams.  

Colgate’s Cole Blair (international relations & Spanish, 3.59 GPA) represented the Raiders on both teams as he won the long jump for the third straight outdoor season. Navy’s Sam Keeny earned gold in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and appears on both squads for the Midshipmen.  

Army West Point’ Nathan Davis (civil engineering, 3.63 GPA), Carlos Posey (nuclear engineering, 3.42), and Javan Guevara-Cragwell (chemical engineering, 3.43), Colgate’s Ethan Eisner (philosophy & economics, 3.73) all earned second-team honors. 
 
Overall, seven men’s student-athletes were selected to the outdoor track and field academic All-League team for the second time, while 11 were selected for the first time. 
 
Women’s Academic All-Patriot League Breakdown
Boston University sophomore Vera Sjöberg (English, 3.96 GPA) earned First Team All-Patriot League honors after winning the 5,000 and 10,000-meters runs at the 2024 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships and was named the women’s track athlete of the meet. Bucknell senior Meghan Quinn (psychology, 3.66) won gold in the women’s 200m and finished runner-up in the 100m at the 2024 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships to earn a spot on the First-Team All-Patriot League.  

Army West Point’s Emily Fink (civil engineering, 3.36 GPA) makes the team after her gold medal performance in the women’s shot put at the outdoor championships, while teammate Charlotte Richman (engineering psychology, 3.60) made an appearance on both squads after winning gold in the women’s 10,000m race. Navy’s, Ellie Abraham (history, GPA 3.81) earned First-Team All-Patriot League honors after her gold medal performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Abraham has won the event for three-consecutive seasons. Lastly, Lehigh’s duo of Ashley Struck (architecture, 3.49) and Laura Reigle (design, 3.79) each earned gold medals with Struck winning the 400m and Reigle winning the pole vault. 

Army West Point senior Brooke Stratman (environmental science, 3.65 GPA), Boston University’s Asia Hamilton (film and television, 3.79 GPA), Bucknell’s Abby Eisold (biomedical engineering, 3.75 GPA) and Navy’s McKenna Brophy (oceanography, GPA 3.97) all earned second-team accolades.
