No. 2 Boston University and No. 1 Army West Point Advance to 2025 Patriot League Softball Championship (5.10.25)

Terriers look to complete three-peat; Black Knights seek first championship since 2013

WEST POINT, N.Y. – No. 2 Boston University and No. 1 Army West Point earned spots in the 2025 Patriot League Softball Championship presented by Credit Union 1 after victories on Saturday.
 
Boston University advanced through the winner’s bracket, completing a 1-0 win over No. 3 Lehigh in a game resumed from Thursday evening. The Terriers then defeated Army West Point, 8-0, in a six-inning game.
 
Army West Point bounced back with a win over No. 4 Bucknell, 6-1, to earn a spot in Sunday’s title game—a rematch of the 2023 Patriot League Softball Championship.
 
The Terriers will be seeking their eighth Patriot League title in program history and third consecutive championship. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. If Army West Point wins the opening game, a winner-take-all contest will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Army Softball Complex.
 
The Patriot League champion will earn the League’s automatic berth to the NCAA Softball Championship. The selection show will air Sunday, May 11, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Boston University junior pitcher Kasey Ricard delivered a complete-game shutout to lead the Terriers past Lehigh, 1-0, after a 41-hour weather delay.
*Ricard and Lehigh junior pitcher Chloe Hess were dominant early, keeping the game scoreless through three innings.
*In the bottom of the fourth, Boston University sophomore outfielder Sophie Naivar broke the tie with her first home-run of the season, sending a solo shot over the center-field fence to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.
*The game was suspended in the middle of the fifth inning on Thursday evening due to weather and was resumed Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
*Ricard remained sharp in the circle following the delay, allowing one hit in the final two innings of play.
*Ricard earned the win pitching a complete-game with eight strikeouts allowing four hits.
*Lehigh’s Chloe Hess went four innings allowing one run on one hit and two strikeouts. First-year Madison Finnerty relieved her after the weather delay going a strong two innings with three strikeouts, only allowing two hits.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Boston University earned an 8-0, six-inning run rule victory over Army West Point on Saturday, using a fourth-inning offensive surge to advance to Sunday’s Patriot League Championship.
*The Terriers got on the board in the top of the third inning when sophomore catcher Livia Christopher reached third base on a fielding error. Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year Brooke Deppiesse followed with an RBI single down the right-field line to score Christopher.
*Boston University extended its lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning as freshman designated player Kieren McHugh drove in junior infielder Megan Coyle with a sacrifice fly to center.
*Sophomore infielder Kyomi Apalit broke the game open later in the inning with a two-out, two-run homer over the left-field fence to make it 4-0.
*Junior pitcher Kasey Ricard worked out of a first-and-third, one-out jam in the bottom half of the fourth to keep Army West Point off the board.
*Freshman outfielder Camryn Lyons added to the lead in the fifth inning with a two-out RBI single to left field, pushing the score to 6-0.
*Deppiesse capped off the offensive performance with a two-run double down the left-field line in the sixth inning to make it 8-0.
*Ricard shut the door in the bottom of the sixth to trigger the run rule, finishing with seven strikeouts while allowing six hits in a complete-game shutout.


NO. 4 BUCKNELL BISON 5, NO. 3 LEHIGH MOUNTAIN HAWKS 3

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Bucknell defeated Lehigh, 5-3, to advance through the elimination bracket in the 2025 Patriot League Softball Championship presented by Credit Union 1.
*The Bison struck in the top of the first inning when Haley Speicher reached on an error and later scored on a pair of groundouts. Bucknell loaded the bases before Lehigh first-year pitcher Madison Finnerty recorded a key strikeout to end the inning.
*In the second inning, Bucknell loaded the bases with no outs, prompting a pitching change to sophomore Maddy Clark. The Bison plated three runs in the inning — one on a bases-loaded walk, another on a sacrifice fly by pitcher Savannah Jones, and a third on a fielder’s choice error — to extend their lead to 4-0.
*Lehigh got on the board in the sixth inning with an RBI single from Maddy Schmeiser to make it 4-1.
*In the seventh inning, senior MaKenzie Hilling gave Bucknell insurance with a solo home run just inside the left-field foul pole to push the lead to 5-1.
*The Mountain Hawks mounted a late rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Patriot League Rookie of the Year Kelly Fricker delivered an RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Julia Mrochko to bring Lehigh within two runs.
*Fricker’s double tied the Lehigh program record for hits in a season with 77.
*Jones earned the complete-game win for the Bison, allowing two earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
 
NO. 1 ARMY WEST POINT BLACK KNIGHTS 6, NO. 4 BUCKNELL BISON 1

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point beat Bucknell, 6-1, to advance to the 2025 Patriot League Softball Championship.
*The Black Knights struck in the top of the first inning after Patriot League Player of the Year Ashton White carried a two-run home run to left field.
*Junior designated player Caitlyn Newburn followed White with a home run of her own going off the scoreboard left-center field to lead 3-0.
*Army West Point extended its lead to 4-0 after junior infielder Taylor Brown scored off a wild pitch in the top of the third.
*The Black Knights tacked another run onto the lead after Leila Hurst landed one in shallow right field to score White in the top of the sixth inning
*Bucknell trimmed the lead to 5-1 after Shea Malone scored off a Molly Lawson RBI.
*Army West Point responded with a run behind an RBI from White to score Sienna Tepley to push the lead 6-1.
*The Black Knights duo of Amanda Eaglin and Breanna Izzo led the way combining for three strikeouts on six hits, leaving eight runners stranded.
