Patriot League Announces Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week (2.3.26)

Bucknell’s Tahirovic, Army West Point’s Sy earn weekly awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bucknell junior Amar Tahirovic and Army West Point sophomore Emma Sy earned Patriot League Tennis Player of the Week honors when the League announced awards on Tuesday.
 
Tahirovic captured Patriot League Men’s Player of the Week recognition after a perfect 4-0 weekend against Binghamton and Delaware.
 
Sy was named Patriot League Women’s Player of the Week after clinching Army West Point’s victory over Stony Brook and adding a straight-set win against UConn.

Army West Point freshman Jimin Jung, Colgate senior Aidan Chung, Navy senior Herrick Legaspi, Boston University sophomore Gabriella Mikaul, Bucknell senior Mirra Manolov, Colgate sophomore Rebecca Hess and Lehigh junior Maggie Forkner earned honorable mention recognition.
 
Men’s Player of the Week
Amar Tahirovic, Bucknell, Jr., Stuttgart, Germany/Stuttgart

*Tahirovic posted a 4-0 combined singles and doubles record as Bucknell defeated Binghamton, 5-2, and narrowly fell to Delaware, 4-3.
*Tahirovic teamed with Brendan McDonald for a 6-3 doubles win over 35th-ranked Euan Mackenzie and Tobey Lock of Delaware, the ITA Northeast Regional champions and NCAA qualifiers. The duo also earned a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles against Binghamton.
*In singles play, Tahirovic defeated Ronin Lotlikar of Binghamton, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, and topped Delaware’s Federico Garbero, 6-1, 6-3.

Women’s Player of the Week
Emma Sy, Army West Point, So., Port Washington, N.Y./Paul D. Schreiber

*Sy went 2-0 at No. 1 singles in Army West Point’s wins over UConn and Stony Brook.
*The sophomore clinched the Black Knights’ 4-3 victory over Stony Brook with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 comeback win after trailing 3-2 in the third set.
*Sy also earned a 6-2, 6-2 straight-set victory over UConn as Army West Point secured a 4-1 team win.

Honorable Mentions
Jimin Jung, Army West Point, Fr., Cary, N.C./Green Hope

Jung earned wins at No. 1 doubles against Stonehill and LIU and added a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles in Army West Point’s 4-0 win over Stonehill.
 
Aidan Chung, Colgate, Sr., Chapel Hill, N.C./Carrboro
Chung went 3-1 overall on the week and delivered the clinching point in Colgate’s victory over St. Francis.
 
Herrick Legaspi, Navy, Sr., Sacramento, Calif.
Legaspi posted a 4-1 combined record, earning No. 1 singles wins over Longwood and George Mason while adding two doubles victories during the week.
 
Gabriella Mikaul, Boston University, So., Manalapan, N.J./Laurel Springs School
Mikaul secured wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in Boston University’s 5-2 victory over Bryant, clinching the doubles point and helping seal the team win.
 
Cameron King, Bucknell, So., Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva High
King went 3-0 across two matches and clinched Bucknell’s 4-3 victory over Mount St. Mary's with her court five singles win, while also earning two doubles victories on the weekend.
 
Rebecca Hess, Colgate, So., Cedar Grove, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy
Hess posted a 2-0 singles record at No. 3, including a comeback three-set victory over Saint Francis, to lead Colgate during the week.
 
Maggie Forkner, Lehigh, Jr., Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville
Forkner earned a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, defeating Rider’s Claire Brown, 6-1, 6-4.
