Patriot League Field Hockey Players of the Week Announced (9.14.26)

Lafayette’s Pasic and Gibb, Holy Cross’ McCloskey and Maclean and American’s Willemse capture weekly accolades

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Holy Cross and Lafayette each received two of the five Patriot League field hockey weekly awards when the League office announced honors on Monday. American claimed the remaining accolade.
 
The Patriot League field hockey players of the week are selected in a vote by League head coaches, who are not eligible to vote for their own student-athletes.
 
Patriot League Field Hockey Forward of the Week
Laila Pasic, Lafayette, Jr., Forward, Chatham, N.J./Oak Knoll
*Pasic scored two goals to help Lafayette go 3-0 last week with wins over Cornell (2-1), Rider (3-0) and Drexel (4-1).
*She scored the first goal in Lafayette’s 2-1 win over the Big Red on Monday.
*The junior forward scored on a deflection in the Leopards’ 4-1 victory over the Dragons on Sunday.
 
Patriot League Field Hockey Midfielder of the Week
Katie Gibb, Lafayette, Sr., Midfielder, Vancouver, B.C./Point Grey Secondary
*Gibb recorded three assists to help Lafayette go 3-0 last week and remain undefeated at home.
*She assisted Lena Thedrian’s game-winning goal in the Leopards’ 2-1 win over Cornell on Monday.
*The senior midfielder recorded two more assists in Lafayette’s 3-0 win over Rider on Friday.
 
Patriot League Field Hockey Defender of the Week
Sophie Willemse, American, Sr., Defender, Oisterwijk, The Netherlands/2College Durendael
*Willemse led an American defense that allowed just one goal last week in wins over William & Mary (8-0) and Towson (6-1).
*She scored two goals in the Eagles’ 8-0 win over the Tribe on Friday.
*The senior defender added one goal and one assist in a 6-1 win over the Tigers on Sunday.
 
Patriot League Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week
Mia McCloskey, Holy Cross, Jr., Goalkeeper, Villanova, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur
*McCloskey recorded a .789 save percentage and a goals-against average (GAA) of 2.0 to help Holy Cross go 1-1 last week.
*She made nine saves, allowing just one goal, in the Crusaders’ 3-1 win over Bryant on Sunday.
*The junior goalkeeper made six stops and allowed three goals in a loss to ACC opponent Stanford on Friday.
 
Patriot League Field Hockey Rookie of the Week
Marianna Maclean, Holy Cross, Fr., Midfielder, Edinburgh, Scotland/Fettes College
*Maclean netted her first collegiate hat trick with all three of Holy Cross’ goals in a 3-1 win over Bryant on Sunday.
*She tallied a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes against the Bulldogs before adding her third goal in the final minute.
*The freshman midfielder leads the Patriot League in points (15), is third in assists (5) and fourth in goals (5).
 
Honorable Mentions
Jordan Reicher, American, Sr., Striker, Redwood City, Calif./St. Francis
*Reicher scored two goals in the Eagles’ 6-1 win over Towson on Sunday. She scored the first goal of the game, then struck again to open a three-goal third quarter.
 
Emilia Winkler, American, Sr., Midfielder, Berlin, Germany/Kant-Oberschule
*Winkler registered five assists last week, including four in American’s 8-0 win over William & Mary. Against the Tribe, Winkler helped the Eagles convert 5-of-9 penalty corners. She had one assist in the 6-1 win over Towson.
 
Alex Purcell, Boston University, Sr., Defender, Dublin, Ireland/Holy Child School of Killiney
*Purcell played every minute in two games for the Terriers, scoring one goal in each of their losses against Brown (5-4) and Maine (3-2). She helped BU’s defense limit the two teams to just seven penalty corners.
 
Addison Kahn, Lafayette, Jr., Goalkeeper, Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford
*Kahn played in 180 minutes in three matches, finishing with an .800 save percentage and 0.67 GAA to help Lafayette go 3-0 last week. She made five saves and allowed one goal in a 2-1 win over Cornell before concluding the week with three saves, allowing one goal, in a 4-1 win at Drexel.
 
Lena Thedrian, Lafayette, Sr., Defender, Hamburg, Germany/Rudolf Steiner Schule Hamburg-Wandsbek
*Thedrian scored two goals and added one defensive save to help Lafayette go 3-0 last week. She scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Cornell and added a goal in the Leopards’ 3-0 win over Rider. She made a defensive save in a 4-1 win at Drexel, leading a Lafayette defense that has held opponents to one goal or less in five of six matches this season.
 
Kate Burgess, Lehigh, Sr., Goalkeeper, Holden, Mass./The Governor’s Academy
*In two matches, Burgess finished the week with an .852 save percentage and 2.18 GAA. She made 12 saves and allowed two goals in a 2-0 loss to Villanova. She stopped 11 shots and let in two goals in a 3-0 loss to Saint Joseph’s.
