Army Wins Patriot League Women's Tennis Championship

The Army Black Knights won their seventh Patriot League Women's Tennis Championships all-time defeating No.3 Bucknell by a score of 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point, N.Y.

The No. 1 seeded Black Knights (15-12) won two doubles matches to take the point and then won three singles matches to earn the win over the Bison. The remaining matches were left unfinished.

Kristin Flach and Jessica Schurtz defeated the duo of Chelsea Mills and Caitlin Baffa at No. 2 doubles, 8-6. At No. 3 doubles Amanda Paluch and Sarah Giles-Madden topped Ashley Globerman and JoAnna Grossman by a score of 8-1.

The Bison did win at the No.1 doubles as the duo Veronica Brown and Paulina Gamboa defeated Brooke Jones and Megan Noble by a score of 8-4.

In singles play Giles-Madden defeated Gamboa at the No. 3 spot by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Alquero then won 6-1, 6-2 over Grossman at No. 6 singles to take the 3-0 lead.

Army clinched the Championship at No. 5 where Schurtz defeated Baffa 6-1, 6-1.

Giles-Madden and Shurtz were named the tournaments co-MVP's.

With the win the Black Knights receive the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament which begins May 12.
