Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week (3.4.25)

Colgate’s Vlassis, Navy’s Tannenbaum earn weekly awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Colgate and Navy split this week’s Patriot League Tennis awards when the League announced honors on Tuesday.

Colgate senior Benito Vlassis claimed Patriot League Men’s Player of the Week after going 2-0 in the Raiders’ match against Navy.
 
Navy senior Emily Tannenbaum received Women’s Player of the Week honors after going 3-0 at first singles and doubles to help the Mids to two wins.

Navy senior, Nathan Nguyen, Bucknell junior Adam Stavrakas, Army West Point junior Isabella Brilliant and Lehigh sophomore Maggie Forkner earned honorable mentions. 

Men’s Player of the Week
Benito Vlassis, Colgate, Sr., Manlius, N.Y./ Christian Brothers Academy
*Vlassis went 2-0 in the Raiders match against Navy, scoring Colgate’s lone point.
*At first singles, Vlassis earned a 4-6, 6-4, (14-12) victory fighting off three match points in a come-from-behind victory.
*At No. 1 doubles, Vlassis teamed with Josh Israel to take the 7-5 victory.

 Women’s Player of the Week
Emily Tannenbaum, Navy, Sr., Commack, N.Y./ Commack
*Tannenbaum went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and doubles to help secure two team wins over the weekend.
*She teamed with Parvathi Shanker earned a 6-3 doubles win over Georgetown’s top pairing.
*Tannenbaum followed with a 6-2, 6-1 singles win over Georgetown’s Emily Novikov in a 5-2 victory.
*The senior capped the day with another 6-2, 6-1 win against Morgan State’s Hannah Smith in Navy’s 7-0 sweep.

Honorable Mention
Nathan Nguyen, Navy, Jr., McLean, Va./HS
Nguyen went 2-0 in the Mids’ 6-1 win against Colgate with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles and a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles to seal the doubles point.

Adam Stavrakas, Bucknell, Jr., Athens, Greece/ St. Catherine's British School
Stavrakas teamed with Oscar Bain and won four straight matches to reach the quarterfinals of the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship, defeating teams from Pomona-Pitzer, UCLA, Ball State, and UC Davis. Against Division III Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Stavrakas went 2-0 clinching the doubles point and earning a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.

Isabella Brilliant, Army West Point, Jr., Boca Raton, Fla./HS
Brilliant went a combined 3-0 at No. 3 singles and doubles with wins over Rutgers, Hofstra, and Colgate, including a 6-0, 6-1 singles victory against Hofstra.

Maggie Forkner, Lehigh, So., Libertyville, Ill./ Libertyville
Forkner went unbeaten in Lehigh’s 5-2 win over LIU, earning a 6-4 doubles victory and a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles.
