BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bucknell and Boston University split this week’s Patriot League Tennis awards, as the League announced honors on Tuesday.
Bucknell junior Amar Tahirovic was named Patriot League Men’s Player of the Week after posting a 4-0 singles record in Bucknell’s 3-1 week.
Boston University sophomore Blanka DeMicheli earned Patriot League Women’s Player of the Week honors after going 3-0 doubles with wins over Bucknell, No. 63 FIU and No. 29 FAU.
Holy Cross sophomore Matt Carlson, Navy senior Emily Tannenbaum and Lehigh first-year Ronit Khromchenko earned honorable mentions.
Men’s Player of the Week
Amar Tahirovic, Bucknell, Jr., Stuttgart, Germany/ Stuttgart
*Tahirovic went 4-0 in singles, dropping only one set in matches against UNC Greensboro, Elon, Davidson, and Howard.
*The junior secured a match-clincher at Elon, rallying from a 3-5 deficit in the third set to win four straight games against Veljko Krstic, a 2024 First Team All-CAA selection and 2023 CAA Rookie of the Year.
*Tahirovic dominated his other matches, winning 6-0, 6-0 against UNCG, 6-1, 6-1 against Davidson and 6-3, 6-0 against Howard.
*With 73 career singles wins, Tahirovic moved into sole possession of the No. 3 spot on Bucknell’s all-time list, surpassing Josh Katten and Daniel Wright.
Women’s Player of the Week
Blanka DeMicheli, Boston University, So., Boca Raton, Fl./ Palm Beach Virtual
*DeMicheli went 3-0 in doubles at line two with Madison Liu, securing wins over Bucknell (6-3), No. 63 FIU (6-2), and No. 29 FAU (7-6 (0)).
*The sophomore clinched the doubles point against Bucknell and was the first pair to win in doubles against both FIU and FAU, helping Boston University win the doubles point in all three matches.
*DeMicheli earned a 6-0, 6-1 singles win over Bucknell's Tori Allen, putting BU up 2-0 and contributing to a 4-0 victory that kept the Terriers undefeated in League play.
Honorable Mention
Matt Carlson, Holy Cross, So., Amherst, N.Y./ Nichols
Carlson went 2-0 in both singles and doubles this week, defeating Colgate's Josh Israel (6-3, 6-3) and Assumption's Hugo Petersson (7-6, 7-6) at No. 2 singles. He also teamed with Patrick Ling for 6-4 doubles wins over Colgate's Aidan Chung and Tim Viding, as well as Assumption's Jakob Bordt and Hugo Petersson.
Emily Tannenbaum, Navy, Sr., Commach, N.Y./ Commack
Tannenbaum went 2-0 during the team's spring-break doubleheader, earning a 6-4, 6-0 singles win over Quinnipiac's Willow Renton and teaming with Olivia Fermo for a 6-2 doubles victory against Middle Tennessee.
Ronit Khromchenko, Lehigh, Fy., Manalapan, N.J./ Manalapan
Khromchenko clinched a 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 three-set victory in Lehigh’s 4-3 win over UC Riverside and earned a 7-6, 6-1 two-set win in the team’s 5-2 victory over Concordia University Irvine.
