BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Navy and Colgate split this week’s Patriot League Tennis awards, as the League announced honors on Tuesday.
Navy junior Herrick Legaspi was named Patriot League Men’s Player of the Week after posting a 5-0 record across three matches for the Mids.
Colgate junior Amelia Galin earned Patriot League Women’s Player of the Week honors after leading the Raiders to a win over Le Moyne with wins at first singles and doubles.
Army West Point freshman Jackson Armistead, Bucknell junior Amar Tahirovic, Holy Cross sophomore Teddy Callery and Loyola Maryland freshman Elena Hartley earned honorable mentions.
Men’s Player of the Week
Herrick Legaspi, Navy, Jr., Sacramento, Calif.
*Legaspi went 5-0 across three matches for Navy.
*In Navy’s 7-0 win over Morgan State, he earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles and a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
*He partnered with Charlie Spencer for back-to-back No. 1 doubles wins against Monmouth (6-3) and Drexel (6-3).
*In singles against Drexel, Legaspi fought back for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) victory.
Women’s Player of the Week
Amelia Galin, Colgate, Jr., Westport, Conn./Staples
*Galin powered Colgate to a victory over Le Moyne, winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
*She teamed up Sophia Montero at No. 1 doubles for a 6-2 win.
Honorable Mention
Jackson Armistead, Army West Point, Fr., Boca Raton, Fla./South Carolina Connections Academy
Armistead helped lead the Black Knights to a 5-2 win over Quinnipiac, winning at No. 3 doubles with Vishnu Bodavula (6-3) before securing a commanding 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles.
Amar Tahirovic, Bucknell, Jr., Stuttgart, Germany/Stuttgart
Bucknell junior Amar Tahirovic went 2-0 in the Bison’s match against Richmond, teaming with Brendan McDonald for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles before earning a hard-fought 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles over All-A10 player Paxton Pritchard.
Teddy Callery, Holy Cross, So., Darien, Conn./ Darien
Callery posted a 2-1 singles record on the week, defeating College of Charleston’s Eddie Vo in a tight 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, (10-8) match at No. 3 singles before earning a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory over Marist’s Gregor Heinemann at No. 2 singles.
Elena Hartley, Loyola Maryland, Fr., Myrtle Beach, S.C./Socastee
Hartley went undefeated in singles play at No. 3, dominating Cedarville’s Paula Curci (6-0, 6-0), rallying past Bowling Green’s Konstantina Adamopoulou (0-6, 6-2, 6-2), and closing the week with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Eckerd’s Cate Cole.
