Dec. 28, 2007

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has announced its 2007 award winners across several categories this past month, with Patriot League student-athletes earning several All-Region and All-America nods. The Patriot League placed 17 men's and women's soccer student-athletes on the All-Region teams, and also had five student-athletes named to the Scholar All-Region teams.

The men placed two student-athletes on the All-Mid-Atlantic Region team, led by 2007 Patriot League BRINE Defensive Player of the Year Dan Belke. Belke, who helped lead Colgate to its first NCAA Tournament appearance, was joined on the first team by Lehigh forward Kyle Evans. Evans led the League in points and goals this season, totaling 25 and 11, respectively.

Earning second-team recognition were a pair of major award winners, as Patriot League BRINE Offensive Player of the Year Eric Anton of Colgate and Patriot League BRINE Goalkeeper of the Year Joey Kuterbach of Bucknell were selected. Kuterbach's teammate, sophomore forward Conor O'Brien, also earned second-team status, and was joined by fellow Second-Team All-Patriot League selection Scott Hawkins of Lafayette. The third team had an astounding seven Patriot League student-athletes representing five of the League's eight teams. Third-team selections included Army defender Daniel Newell, Bucknell midfielder Corey Curnutte, Bucknell defender Joe Mellott, Colgate goalkeeper David Cappuccio, Holy Cross forward Kyle Miller, Holy Cross midfielder Andreas Andrews and Lafayette defender Anthony Sepe.

The women were represented by four student-athletes on two different All-Region teams. Finding a spot on the All-Mid-Atlantic Region third-team was American forward Kelsey Brasher, American midfielder Friederike Engel and Navy forward Brigitte Fox. Colgate forward Franny Iacuzzi was named to the All-Northeast Region third team as well.

The Patriot League also had several student-athletes named to the NSCAA Scholar All-America and All-Region teams. Newell, who was named the 2007 Patriot League Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was named to the Scholar All-America second-team as well as the Scholar All-East Region first-team. Joining Newell on the All-East Region first-team was teammate John Kubeika. A pair of Lafayette student-athletes were named to the All-East second-team, as forward Mark Price and midfielder Mike Tilley earned recognition. Army goalkeeper A.J. Glubzinski was named to the All-East third-team.
