Bucknell Men's Tennis Closes Out Weekend With 6-1 Loss At Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Bucknell men's tennis team wrapped up a weekend of play with a 6-1 loss on the road against the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon. The Bison opened the weekend with a scrimmage against Cornell on Friday night and then picked up a 7-0 win against Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, N.Y. After this weekend's matches, Bucknell is 1-2 in 2008.

At No. 1 singles, senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) fell to Jason Pinsky of Penn, 5-7, 6-7. Junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) picked up the lone singles win for the Bison at the No. 2 spot. He was victorious over Joseph Lok, 5-7, 5-4 and then by default. At the No. 3 postion, Eric Riley topped sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick), 1-6, 6-7, and at No. 4 junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) fell to Adam Schwartz, 3-6, 1-6. Rounding out singles, freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) finished behind Justen Roth, 5-6, 0-6, at No. 5 and freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) lost by 6-1 to Dmitry Bury at No. 6.

In doubles, Reibeisen and Sandburg fell to Pinsky and Lok, 5-8 at No. 1, while Brenner and Kovic were defeated by Riley and Brandon O'Gara at the No. 2 position for Penn to take the doubles point. Rounding out doubles play, senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Malloy topped Zach Gorn and Bury at the No. 3 position, 8-4, to pick up their second doubles win of the weekend.

The Bison will be back in action on Feb. 23, with a match against Saint Francis (Pa.) at the West Branch Tennis Club in Williamsport, Pa.
