CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Two weekends of competition remain until the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Lehigh University, beginning on Friday, May 5.
Army West Point senior distance runner Jacob Fong won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Bison Outdoor Classic with a Patriot League-best time of 9:01.93 to earn the M-F Athlete Outdoor Track & field Male Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate and sophomore jumper Jeff Giannettino finished third at the Gamecock Invitational with a leap of 2.11 meters, the best mark in the League, to earn M-F Athlete Male Field Athlete of the Week.
Bucknell junior distance runner Colleen Buckley earned M-F Athlete Female Track Athlete of the Week by setting a program record in the 5,000-meter run in 16:29.83, the 73rd fastest collegiate time in the nation this year.
Lehigh earned a pair of weekly honors, as senior high jumper Courtney Avery high jumped 5’10.75” meters, the best mark in the Patriot League by nearly five inches to earn M-F Athlete Female Athlete of the Week. Freshman Hannah Patrick’s javelin throw of 44.44 meters earned her M-F Athlete Female Rookie of the Week.
Boston University freshman distance runner Paul Luevano finished the 5,000-meter run in 14:10.95 at the Mt. SAC Relays, good for the top time in the League this season.
THIS WEEKEND IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
Army West Point, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland and Navy will all compete at the Larry Ellis Challenge in Princeton, N.J. on Friday and Saturday.
Boston University and Navy will compete at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville.
The Terriers will also be competing at the Morgan State Legacy Meet along with American and Loyola Maryland.
On Saturday, Bucknell is at home for the Bucknell Team Challenge, Colgate competes at the Delaware Open, Lafayette is at the All-American Invite, Holy Cross is at the Holy Cross Decathlon and BU is at the MIT Invitational.

Jacob Fong, Army West Point, Sr., Distance, Saginaw, Mich.
Fong won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Bison Outdoor Classic finishing with a Patriot League-best time of 9:01.93. He has the 57th-best time in NCAA Division I this season and is more than 18 seconds faster than the second fastest time in the Patriot League.

Buckley set a Bucknell program record and ran the fastest time in the Patriot League this season, winning the 5,000-meter run at the Bison Outdoor Classic with a time of 16:29.83. Her time is the 73rd-fastest collegiate time this season.

Giannettino finished third at the Gamecock Invitational in the high jump with a leap of 2.11 meters (6’11”), the best mark in the Patriot League this season. His jump is also tied for 48th in NCAA Division I this season.

Courtney Avery, Lehigh, Sr., Jumper, Wynantskill, N.Y.
Avery won the high jump at the Greyhound Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. with a leap of 1.80-meters (5’10.75”). Her high jump was the best mark in the Patriot League by nearly five inches. She has the 12th best mark in the NCAA East Region and is tied for the 20th-best collegiate jump in the nation.

Paul Luevano, Boston University, Fr., Distance, Los Angeles, Calif.
Luevano finished the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:10.95 at the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif. His time is the best in the Patriot League by more than seven seconds and is 78th in NCAA Division I this season.

Hannah Patrick, Lehigh, Fr., Thrower, Ligonier, Pa.
Patrick set a personal record at the Bison Outdoor Classic, finishing third overall with a javelin throw of 44.44 meters. The throw is the third-best in the Patriot League this season, 37th in the NCAA Eastern Region and 81st in the nation this season.

Luke Giugliano, Bucknell, Sr., Distance, Sparta, N.J.
Giugliano posted an IC4A-qualifying time of 29:52.01 in the 10,000-meter run at the Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday. His time in the 10,000m is the fastest in the Patriot League this season and among the nation’s top-100.
Zoe Matherne, Holy Cross, Jr., Mid-Distance, Camp Hill, Pa.
Matherne broke her second program record of the year, finishing second in the 800-meter run at the Minuteman Invitational with a time of 2:09.29. Her time qualifies for the ECAC Championships, in addition to being the second-fastest time in the Patriot League and 94th in the nation.
Ben Stewart, Navy, So., Decathlon, Charlestown, R.I.
Stewart won the Decathlon at the Charlotte Invitational with 6,382 points. The total points is the best in the Patriot League this season. Stewart won four of 10 events, including the long jump (21’-8.75”, 6.62m), high jump (5’10”, 1.78m), pole vault (14’11.5”, 4.56m) and the 1,500-meter run (4:32.42). He also finished second in the 400-meter run (51.88) and the javelin (140’7”, 42.85m).
Meg Sangimino, Bucknell, Sr., Throws, Mars, Pa.
Sangimino won the javelin throw at the Bison Outdoor Classic with a throw of 48.27-meters (158’4”), finishing three inches shy of the Bucknell program record. Her toss is the best in the Patriot League this season by more than three meters. Sangimino’s throw is also 33rd in the nation.
