Navy’s Edwards, Thompson, Berecz and Alfieri; Army West Point’s Maddox and Young earn individual honors
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy led the Patriot League with four of the six selections for the M-F Athletic Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week while Army West Point added a pair when the League office announced weekly honors on Tuesday afternoon.
Navy sophomore Clayton Thompson was selected M-F Athletic Male Field Athlete of the Week for his Patriot League-leading performance in the heptathlon while sophomore teammate Evelyn Berecz picked up the female field athlete of the week after posting the best triple jump in the Patriot League this season.
Mids sophomore Chelsey Edwards earned the female track athlete of the week for her League-leading finish in the 400-meter dash, with freshman teammate Chloe Alfieri was selected the female rookie of the week for her efforts in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash.
Army West Point junior Tyrell Maddox was selected as the M-F Athletic Patriot League Male Track Athlete of the Week for his League-leading finish in the 400-meter dash. Freshman teammate Justin Young was named male rookie of the week while he continues to pace the League in the 60-meter hurdles.
PATRIOT LEAGUE INDOOR TRACK & FIELD ACTION FROM LAST WEEKEND
Eight of the nine Patriot League men’s teams and nine of the ten women’s programs were in action last weekend after the long break for final exams and the holiday season. Last Friday, Lafayette traveled to Staten Island, N.Y. for the Spartan Invite, and then competed on Saturday at the Great Dane Classic, joined by Colgate and the Loyola Maryland women. Boston University headed across town to Cambridge for the Harvard Pentathlon/Heptathlon held last Friday and Saturday, while Navy hosted the Wesley Brown Invitational, held last Friday and Saturday. On Saturday, Lehigh hosted the Angry Birds Invitational, Army West Point and Bucknell traveled to Penn State for the Nittany Lion Challenge. Holy Cross competed at the Beantown Challenge, hosted by Harvard.

Army West Point kicks off this week’s events on Friday when they travel to Lexington, Va. for their dual meet with VMI. Loyola Maryland’s women head to Staten Island, N.Y. for the Gotham Cup. On Saturday, American travels to Landover, Md. for the Maryland Terrapin Invitational; Boston University hosts a Multi-Team Meet; Bucknell hosts the Gulden Invitational; Colgate heads to Ithaca, N.Y. for the Upstate Challenge; Holy Cross travels to Durham, N.H. for the New Hampshire Dual-Meet; and Lafayette hosts Lehigh for their annual rivalry dual-meet clash.

Tyrell Maddox, Army West Point, Jr., Sprinter, Delaware Valley, Pa.
*Maddox won the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.38-seconds, the top Patriot League time for that distance this season, along with the 34th best time in NCAA Division I, at the Nittany Lion Challenge.
*Maddox also helped the team to a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:14.80, tops in the Patriot League and the 38th-best time in NCAA DI.
*This marks his second M-F Athletic Patriot League Male Track Athlete of the Week this season.
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Chelsey Edwards, Navy, So., Sprinter, Schertz, Texas
*Competing at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational, Edwards placed second in the 400-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 56.34-seconds. She finished sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.32-seconds.
*She leads the Patriot League in the 400-meter dash and has the 42nd best time in NCAA Division I.
*Edwards also ran the lead leg of Navy’s third-place finish in the 4x400m relay with an ECAC qualifying time of 3:50.40, the top time in the League this season.
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Clayton Thompson, Navy, So., Multi-Events, Corpus Christi, Tex.
*Thompson tallied 5,331 points at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational, breaking the school record in the heptathlon, set in 2008. He tallied personal best performances in four of the seven events including the 60-meter dash (7.23-seconds), 1000-meter run (2:55.80), long jump (7.01-meters) and the high jump (1.92-meters).
*He won the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and long jump while finishing second in the high jump en route to a second-place overall finish in the field of 10 competitors.
*His heptathlon point total leads the Patriot League and is the second-best total in NCAA Division I this season.
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Evelyn Berecz, Navy, So., Jumper, Downington, Pa.
*At the Wesley A. Brown Invitational, Berecz set a Navy record and won the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying jump of 12.20-meters (40’0.5”).
*In the triple jump she currently leads the League while being ranked 27th in NCAA DI.
*She also finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.59-meters (18’4.25”), placing her second in the League this season.

Justin Young, Army West Point, Fr., Hurdler, Wylie, Tex.
*At the Nittany Lion Challenge, Young placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.97 seconds for the best time in the Patriot League and 38th-fastest in NCAA DI this season.
*Young also ran the lead leg in the second-place finishing 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:14.80, tops in the Patriot League and the 38th-best in NCAA DI this season.
*This is Young’s second M-F Athletic Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week award this season.
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Chloe Alfieri, Navy, Fr., Sprinter, Harvard, Mass.
* At the Wesley A. Brown Invitational, Alfieri posted three top-10 finishes with a pair of times that rank in Navy’s all-time top-10.
*In the 200-meter dash, she placed third clocking the fifth fastest time in school history in 24.99-seconds, also the third-best in the League this season.
*She ran the second leg of Navy’s third-place finish in the 4x400m relay with an ECAC qualifying time of 3:50.40, the seventh fastest in Navy history, along with being the top time in the League this season.
*In the 60-meter dash, Alfieri placed fifth with a time of 7.87-seconds.

* Brown placed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.85-seconds and placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.09-seconds at the Nittany Lion Challenge.
Nicholas Marino, Bucknell, So., Vaulter, Horsham, Pa.
*At the Nittany Lion Challenge, Marino placed second in the pole vault clearing the bar at 4.95-meters (16’2.75”).
Kaitlin Salisbury, Bucknell, Jr., Sprinter, Hawthorne, N.J.
* Salisbury placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.66-seconds and placed 12th in the 200-meter dash at the Nittany Lion Challenge.

*At the Nittany Lion Challenge, Watson won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.58.
