BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Colgate and Lehigh split the four Patriot League field hockey weekly awards when the League office announced honors on Monday. The Raiders and Mountain Hawks both improved to 2-0 on Sunday.
Colgate senior forward Meghan Minturn collected Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the Raiders’ 1-0 victory over Holy Cross. Freshman midfielder Ella Murphy received rookie of the week honors after assisting Minturn’s goal while helping the Raiders’ defense record the shutout.
Lehigh senior defender Lenke Havas was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Mountain Hawks record their second-consecutive shutout in addition to scoring a pair of goals in a 4-0 victory over Bucknell. Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Kahn was named goalkeeper of the week for the second time in as many weeks after making nine saves in her second shutout win over the Bison.
Boston University senior defender Alexis Pettisani, Colgate junior goalkeeper Anna Unger and Lehigh freshman midfielder Julia Gatelein all received honorable mentions for their performances over the weekend.
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Meghan Minturn, Colgate, Sr., Forward, Winnetka, Ill./New Trier
*Minturn scored the game-winning goal in Colgate’s 1-0 victory against Holy Cross to improve to 2-0 in League play.
*She scored for the second-consecutive game, finding the back of the cage 2:25 into the first quarter.
*The senior forward led the Raiders with six shots and four shots on goal.
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lenke Havas, Lehigh, Sr., Defender, Maastricht, The Netherlands/Sint-Maartenscollege
*Havas scored a pair of goals and anchored a Lehigh defense that shut out Bucknell 4-0 for the team’s largest margin of victory against the Bison in program history.
*The senior defender scored her first goal on a penalty stroke in the first quarter, then added her second goal on a penalty corner in the third quarter.
*She helped the Mountain Hawks record their second-consecutive shutout to improve to 2-0 in League play.
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Maddie Kahn, Lehigh, So., Goalkeeper, Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City
*Kahn posted nine saves in a shutout victory to help Lehigh improve to 2-0 in League play for the first time since 1996.
*The sophomore goalkeeper made six saves in the second half to earn the Mountain Hawks’ first shutout win over Bucknell since 2011.
*She has not allowed a goal in two games this season with 11 saves in total.
PATRIOT LEAGUE FIELD HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ella Murphy, Colgate, Fr., Midfielder, Kitchener, Ont./Appleby College
*Murphy assisted the game-winning goal in Colgate’s 1-0 victory over Holy Cross on Sunday.
*The freshman midfielder took four shots with one on goal in the Raiders’ victory.
*She was also part of a defensive unit that held the Crusaders scoreless.
HONORABLE MENTION
Alexis Pettisani, Boston University, Sr., Defender, Medford, N.J./Eastern Regional
*Pettisani scored her first career goal in overtime to lift Boston University to a 2-1 victory over Lafayette while helping a Terriers’ defense that held Lafayette to three shots during the contest.
Anna Unger, Colgate, Jr., Goalkeeper, Houston, Texas/St. Agnes Academy
*Unger made eight saves in the Raiders’ 1-0 shutout victory over Holy Cross. The shutout was the first of her first of the season and third of her career.
Julia Gatelein, Lehigh, Fr., M/F, Haddon Heights, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep
*Gatelein scored a goal in her second-consecutive game, knocking in a rebound at the 40:20 mark to help Lehigh defeat Bucknell 4-0.
