Patriot League Announces Women’s Tennis Postseason Accolades (5.18.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Army West Point and Boston University split the 2021 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Major Awards as the All-Patriot League teams and major awards were announced on Tuesday morning by the League office.
 
Army West Point senior Ana Joyner was named this year’s Patriot League Women’s Tennis Player of the Year, while teammates Stephanie Dolehide and Caroline Vincent earned doubles team of the year.

BU freshman Kaitlin Tan received rookie of the year, and head coach Lesley Sheehan was named coach of the year.
 
Six out of nine League teams are represented on the two All-League teams. Army West Point, Boston University and Navy all had three student-athletes on the teams, followed by Bucknell with two. Lehigh and Loyola Maryland rounded out the all-League teams with one student-athlete apiece.
 
The Major Awards and All-League teams were voted on by the nine Patriot League head coaches who could not vote for their student-athletes or themselves.
 
Patriot League Women’s Tennis Player of the Year
Ana Joyner, Army West Point, Sr., Las Cruces, N.M./Arrowhead Park Early College
* Joyner finished the season with a 9-1 record at No. 1 singles and a 7-3 record at No. 2 doubles.
* The senior recorded a 6-0 singles record in League play with wins over BU, Navy, Lehigh, Lafayette and Loyola Maryland.
* Joyner earned a 5-3 No. 2 doubles record against League opponents.
* She is a three-time Patriot League Player of the Year (2018, ’19, ’21).
* In 2018, Joyner was named rookie of the year and the Patriot League Championship MVP.

Patriot League Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Year
Kaitlin Tan, Boston University, Fr., Tacoma, Wash./Annie Wright Schools
* Tan recorded an 8-0 record in singles this season for the Terriers.
* The freshman also collected a 9-2 doubles record.
* Tan was named the 2021 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Championship MVP.
 
Patriot League Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Year
Stephanie Dolehide/Caroline Vincent, Army West Point
* Dolehide and Vincent notched a 9-2 overall doubles record playing at No. 1 doubles.
* The duo ended the season 7-0 in Patriot League play on court one.
 
Patriot League Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year
Lesley Sheehan, Boston University
* Sheehan guided BU to a 10-2 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in Patriot League action this season.
* She directed the team to their fifth Patriot League Women’s Tennis title in eight seasons with a 4-3 win over Navy in the championship match
