Bucknell Evens Patriot League Baseball Championship Series with Victory over Army West Point (5.25.22)

Bison force a decisive game three with Black Knights for League title

WEST POINT, N.Y. – No. 2 Bucknell exploded for 13 runs while senior right-handed pitcher Austin Odell held top-seeded Army West Point’s bats in check to help the Bison earn a 13-3 win, forcing a decisive game three of the 2022 Patriot League Baseball Championship Series.
 
Odell allowed one run on six hits over 8.0 innings, while sophomore shortstop Anthony Sherwin, senior left fielder Chris Cannizzaro, sophomore right fielder Grant Voytovich and senior third baseman Brendan Lowery had two RBIs apiece in the Bison victory.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Eight different Bucknell batters drove in at least one run, including two apiece from Cannizzaro, Voytovich and Lowery, to lead the second-seeded Bison to a 13-3 victory over No. 1 Army West Point at Johnson Stadium at Doubleday Field.
*The two through five hitters in the Bison lineup, including Cannizzaro, Voytovich, sophomore third baseman Jacob Corson and freshman first baseman Tyler Dunn combined to go 9-for-18 with seven runs and five RBIs.
*Cannizzaro went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Voytovich went 2-for-5 with three runs in the victory.
*Voytovich opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with an RBI double. He later scored on Lowery’s sacrifice fly, giving the Bison a 3-0 lead.  
*Army West Point sophomore third baseman Sam Ruta drove in senior centerfielder Hunter Meade with a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-1.
*After allowing one run in the first inning, Bucknell’s Odell held the potent Black Knights’ offense scoreless through the next seven innings to pick up the win. He allowed one run on six hits while striking out three.
*The Bison offense continued to produce, scoring one run in the second and two in the third on RBI singles from senior catcher Logan Kellerman and junior centerfielder Kyle Lyons. They scored five more runs in the seventh inning and two in the ninth to put the game out of reach.  
*The Black Knights scored a pair of runs in the final frame on RBI doubles from Meade and senior right fielder Carter Macias.
*Junior RHP Brian Dawson took the loss for the Black Knights, allowing six runs, five earned, on six hits over 2.2 innings.
