Patriot League Announces Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athletes of the Year and Academic All-League Team's (3.9.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point junior Georgia Jones and Boston University graduate student Aksel Laudon were named the Patriot League Women’s and Men’s Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athletes of the Year when the League office announced academic honors. Jones and Laudon were also among the 36 student-athletes named to the women’s and men’s Academic All-Patriot League Teams.
 
Eighteen female and 18 male track and field student-athletes were named to the academic All-League squad. Patriot League men’s and women’s champion Navy placed nine student-athletes on the two teams. Boston University had five honorees, Lafayette had four honorees, American, Army West Point, Bucknell, Holy Cross, and Lehigh all had three honorees apiece.  Loyola Maryland had two selections, while Colgate had one.
 
Voting for the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League Teams are conducted by the League men’s and women’s indoor track and field sports information directors.
 
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor. To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

2022-23 Patriot League Women’s Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Georgia Jones, Army West Point, Jr., Distance, Mont Vernon, N.H. /Souhegan
*Jones is a junior law and legal studies major with a 3.98 cumulative GPA.
*She captured gold at the 2023 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships in the mile, 3,000 and 5,000 meters and was the Women’s Highest Point-Scorer of the Meet for the second year in a row.
*The Mont Vernon, N.H. native was also named the Women’s Most Outstanding Track Performer at the 2023 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships.
*Jones set a meet record in the 3,000 meters and set a facility record in the 5,000 meters at the 2023 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships
*Jones wins her second straight scholar athlete of the year for indoor track and field along with being the 2021 Patriot League Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year.

2022-23 Patriot League Men’s Indoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Aksel Laudon, Boston University, Gr., Middle Distance, Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Vista
*Laudon is a graduate student currently in medical school. As an undergraduate biomedical engineering major, he had a 4.00 cumulative GPA and was a three-time Academic All-Patriot League Indoor Track and Field selection. 
*The Phoenix, Ariz. native helped the Terriers to a second-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay and in the distance medley relay. He also earned bronze in the 800 meters.
*Laudon is a two-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in both Track and Cross Country.
  
Men’s Academic All-Patriot League Team Breakdown
Boston University senior Aksel Laudon earned a spot on the academic All-League squad for the third straight season. American senior Row Sullivan (philosophy and political science, 3.93 GPA), Bucknell junior Robert Feeney (economics, 3.96 GPA), Navy seniors Baynes Autrey (history, 3.47 GPA) and Brett Brady (aerospace engineering, 3.87 GPA), all received Academic All-Patriot League honors for the second-consecutive indoor season.

Colgate sophomore Cole Blair set a championship record and won the men’s long jump by setting a championship record before earning a spot on the all-academic team. Navy junior Baynes Autrey (history, 3.47 GPA) made the academic team after earning gold in the men’s heptathlon at the 2023 indoor championship. Lehigh senior Kerem Ayhan (architecture, 3.42 GPA), and Navy junior Collin Greene (chemistry, 3.74 GPA) and sophomore Preston Wilson (Robotics and Control Engineering, 3.98 GPA) were all Second Team All-Patriot League finishers at the indoor championship.
 
Aubry, Ayhan, Bergin, Blair, Fennelly, Greene, Hamilton, Lynch, Oehrlein, Porter, Puc, Rosmarin, Wilson were all selected to the indoor track and field academic All-League team for the first time.
 
Women’s Academic All-Patriot League Breakdown
Boston University graduate student Meghan Convery (project management 3.8 GPA) earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League squad for the second time. Navy junior Ellie Abraham (history, 3.82 GPA) made her second academic squad and has been named to the Superintendents and Commandant’s list all five of her academic semesters. Scholar Athlete of the Year, Georgia Jones, also received indoor all-academic honors for the second time.

Convery makes the squad after earning gold in the 800 meters at the 2023 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships and being named to the First-Team All-Patriot League. Abraham helped the Mids collect first in the 4x800 and set a meet record in the distance medley relay at the indoor championship. Boston University grad student Emma Montoya (biology, 3.93 GPA) set a meet record at the indoor championships in the 400 meters earning gold. Fellow Terrier Asia Hamilton, and a pair of Navy athletes junior McKenna Brophy (Ocean Engineering, 3.98 GPA) and Alanna Julius (Electrical Engineering, 3.71 GPA) were also First Team All-Patriot League honorees at the indoor championship. Army West Point sophomore Joanna Halfhill (Physics, 4.28 GPA), Bucknell juniors Meghan Quinn (psychology, 3.63 GPA) and Siobhan O’Sullivan (Russian History, 3.92 GPA), and Navy junior Emily Boutin (English, 3.72 GPA) were second-team finishers.
 
Boutin, Brophy, Feuerbach, Greeley, Halfhill, Hamilton, Julius, Malley, Mwaniki, Quinn, Taylor, Yakaboski, Montoya, O’Sullivan, and Spinnler are all first-time Academic All-Patriot League selections.
