Patriot League Announces Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athletes of the Year and Academic All-League Team's (5.18.23)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy junior Annie Taylor and American University senior Row Sullivan were named the Patriot League Women’s and Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athletes of the Year when the League office announced academic honors. Taylor and Sullivan were also among the 42 student-athletes named to the women’s and men’s Academic All-Patriot League Teams.
 
Twenty-one female and 21 male track and field student-athletes were named to the academic All-League squad. Patriot League men’s and women’s champion Navy placed eight student-athletes on the two teams. Army West Point had seven honorees, Boston University had five, American, Bucknell, Colgate and Holy Cross all had four apiece. Lehigh finished with three selections, Loyola Maryland two, while Lafayette had one student-athlete recognized.
 
Voting for the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Men’s and Women’s Scholar-Athletes of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League Teams are conducted by the League men’s and women’s outdoor track and field sports information directors.
 
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
 
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.


2023 Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Annie Taylor, Navy, Jr., Multis, Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth
*Taylor is a junior mathematics major with a 4.00 cumulative GPA.
*She captured gold at the 2023 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the heptathlon with a career-best score of 4,985 points, third all-time for the Navy program.
*The Nashville, Tenn. native also competed in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2023 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship earning the silver medal with a time of 1:03.38
*She been named to the Superintendent's list and Commandant’s List in all five academic semesters
*She is ranked second of 1084 students in the class of 2024 in Military Order of Merit, first in Academic Order of Merit, and fifth in Overall Order of Merit

2023 Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Row Sullivan, American University, Sr., Distance, Pleasanton, Calif. / Foothill Pleasanton
*Sullivan is a senior philosophy and political science: American government major with a 3.93 cumulative GPA and is a three-time Academic All-Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field selection. 
*The Pleasanton, Calif. Native finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run at the 2023 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 14:28.23.
*Sullivan also is a two-time Patriot League All-Academic Team member in both indoor track and cross country.
  
Men’s Academic All-Patriot League Team Breakdown
American senior Row Sullivan earned a spot on the academic All-League squad for the third straight season. Bucknell junior Robert Feeney (economics, 3.96 GPA), Navy teammates senior Brett Brady (aerospace engineering, 3.87 GPA), and junior Braden Presser (mathematics, 3.91) all received Academic All-Patriot League honors for the second-consecutive outdoor season.

Navy senior Baynes Autrey (history, 3.47 GPA) set an outdoor championship record and won the men’s decathlon before earning a spot on the all-academic team. Terrier teammates Kasim Cisse (health science, 3.68 GPA) and Foster Malleck (business administration, 3.23 GPA) won the high jump and 1,500-meter run, respectively, at the 2023 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Colgate sophomore Cole Blair (international relations, 3.43 GPA) won the long jump after claiming gold during the indoor season. Army West Point senior Chris Barrett (mechanical engineering, 3.519 GPA) earned gold at the 2023 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the men’s javelin throw.
 
Army West Point senior Garrett Gough (military history, 3.33 GPA), Boston University sophomore Ryan Rosenberger (business administration, 3.72 GPA), Bucknell senior Anthony Zamarra (biomedical engineering, 3.25 GPA), Holy Cross junior Mike Mazzocca (biology, 3.30 GPA), and Navy senior Brett Brady (aerospace engineering, 3.87 GPA) and junior Braden Presser (mathematics, 3.91) were all Second Team All-Patriot League finishers at the outdoor championship.
 
Autrey, Barrett, Blair, Cisse, Eisner, Fennelly, Gough, Greene, Krill, Malleck, Mazzocca, Porter, Puc, Rosenberger, Thomas, Wilson, and Zamarra were all selected to the outdoor track and field academic All-League team for the first time.
 
Women’s Academic All-Patriot League Breakdown.
Boston University sophomore Daisy Liljegren (health science, 3.25 GPA) earned First Team All-Patriot League honors after winning the 5,000 and 10,000-meters runs at the 2023 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships and was named the female track athlete of the meet. Bucknell junior Meghan Quinn makes the squad after being named the women’s highest point scorer, earning gold in the women’s 100m and 4x100-meter relay runs at the 2023 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships and being named to the First-Team All-Patriot League. Army West Point junior Brooke Stratman (environment science, 3.713 GPA) makes the team after her gold medal performance in the women’s javelin throw at the outdoor championships. Navy teammates, junior’s Ellie Abraham (history, GPA 3.80) and Taylor (mathematics, GPA 4.00) both earned First-Team All-Patriot League honors after their gold medal performances in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and heptathlon, respectively.
 
Army West Point sophomore Joanna Halfhill (physics, 4.277 GPA), Bucknell sophomore (mathematical economics, 3.97 GPA), Loyola Maryland senior Olivia Malley (global studies, 3.639 GPA), and Navy junior Emily Boutin (english, 3.72 GPA) were second-team finishers.
