BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Boston University took home three of the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Weekly honors when the awards were announced on Tuesday. Army West Point won two awards while Navy earned one.
Luke Griner, a senior at Army West Point, earned Patriot League Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors following a record-breaking race in the 800-meters. Griner notched a 1:47.47 time, which is a school record and currently ranks ninth in NCAA Division I. His time is the best indoor 800m mark in the Patriot League since at least 2004, according to available information. Boston University’s Vera Sjöberg took home the Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week award following a 4:38.85 time in the mile. She currently holds the top mark in the Patriot League and ranks 48th nationally.
Joshua Boamah collected his fourth Patriot League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week nod of the season after winning the weight throw and shot put for a second consecutive week. Boamah’s mark of 20.94m (68’ 8”) in the weight throw is his second-best mark this season. He leads the Patriot League by more than four feet. Peace Omonzane of Boston University garnered Patriot League Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors after a triple jump mark of 12.96m (42’ 6.25”). She currently ranks 19th in NCAA DI and second all-time in the Terrier record books.
Freshman Karson Vesty earned Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week honors following a 4:07.51 mile for Boston University. His time currently ranks fourth in the Patriot League and is the best mark among League freshmen. Army West Point’s Mikayla Cheney won Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week honors with her 2:13.95 mark in the 800-meters. She also ran a key leg for the Black Knights’ distance meter relay team that set a school record and currently ranks 20th in NCAA DI.
Army West Point’s Emily Fink and Joanna Halfhill, Boston University’s Foster Malleck, Bucknell University’s Meghan Quinn, Lehigh University’s Skylar Mott, Loyola-Maryland's Lauryn Clarke, and Navy’s Jordynn Hutchison garnered honorable mention nods this week.
Patriot League Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

*Griner broke the school record with a time of 1:47.47 in the 800-meters.
*His time currently ranks ninth in NCAA Division I and is the best Patriot League mark since at least 2004 according to available information.
*This is Griner’s second Men’s Track Athlete of the Week award this season.
Patriot League Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Vera Sjöberg, Boston University, So. Distance, Stockholm, Sweden/Rudbeck
* Sjöberg posted a 4:38.85 mile time, which is the third-best time in Terrier history.
*She now owns the top mark in the Patriot League this season and currently holds the eighth-best indoor mile mark in Swedish history, according to World Athletics.
*This is Sjöberg’s second women’s track athlete of the week award this season.

Joshua Boamah, Navy, Sr., Throws, San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch
*Boamah won the weight throw (20.94m / 68’ 8”) and shot put (17.44m / 57’ 2.75”).
*His weight throw is his second-best on the season, with his top mark ranking 26th in NCAA DI.
*This is Boamah’s fourth field athlete of the week award this season.

Peace Omonzane, Boston University, So., Jumps, Brampton, Ontario/St. Edmund Campion Catholic
*Omonzane won the triple jump with a mark of 12.96m (42’ 6.25”), which is good for second-best in program history.
*Her mark currently ranks 19th across NCAA Division I.
Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week

* Vesty logged a 4:07.51 mile time at the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
*His mark currently ranks fourth in the Patriot League.

*Cheney ran a 2:13.95 800m which currently ranks ninth in the Patriot League.

*Halfhill logged a 1000m time of 2:49.72, which leads the Patriot League.
*She also ran a key leg of the Black Knights DMR that broke a school record that had stood since 1995.
Foster Malleck, Boston University, Gr., Distance, Kitchener, Ontario/St. Mary’s
*Malleck notched a 3000m time of 7:56.78, which ranks fourth in BU history.
*His time currently ranks 42nd in NCAA Division I.
Meghan Quinn, Bucknell, Sr., Sprints, Lititz, Pa./Warwick
*Quinn won the 200m dash with a time of 24.24 seconds, which leads all Patriot League runners.
Skyler Mott, Lehigh University, Jr., Jumps, Mill Neck, N.Y./Friends Academy
*Mott won the high jump with a mark of 2.10m.
*His mark currently ranks 59th in NCAA Division I
Lauryn Clarke, Loyola-Maryland, So., Sprints, Damascus, Md./Damascus
*Clarke set a school record with a 60m time of 7.60, which was the fastest mark in the League this week and fourth-fastest this season.
Jordynn Hutchinson, Navy, Jr., Throws, Spokane, Wash./Mead
*Hutchinson won the weight throw with a mark of 18.97m (62’ 3”), which currently ranks third in the League.

PATRIOT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 2023-24 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship will take place beginning Saturday, Feb. 24 and concluding on Sunday, Feb. 25. at Boston University’s Track & Tennis Center. All nine men’s programs and each of the 10 women’s teams will compete.
